Agreed ^.
Two of my fave covers are "Holy Diver" by Killswitch Engage, and "House of the Rising Sun" by Five Finger Death Punch.

I have an odd fetish for metal covers of pop songs. So I can think of a lot of those. I buy all of the "Punk goes ______" albums, even though they really arent punk, its more rock and metal.
Slayers cover of In The Gadda Da Vida, and Hatebreeds cover of Slayers Ghosts of War, White Zombie Children of the Grave And yeah the Hendrix cover is the easy answer.

Hey Joe by Jimi Hendrix, far better than that other guy in the early-mod 60's.
Working in the coal mine by Devo, far better than that other gruop in the eary-mid 60's. This guy is in love with you by Herb Alpert, far better than Bacharach's original version. I will survive by Cake, so way way better than that disco girl (gloria gainer? no way i did not just know that) |

My pick would be Deep Purple's Hush by The Brothers Kilborne! http://brotherskilborne.com/audio
OK, you got me. A little self promotion from one of my two bands lol. Recorded with a condenser mic while playing live. No remix, overdubs, etc., includes warts and all. Give it a listen (preferably while driving with a nice sound system). Curious what y'all think.

"Take Another Piece of my Heart", covered by Sammy Hagar, > original.
Also, "War Pigs" done by Ozzy with Zakk Wylde on guitar takes things to a new level.

"I can't get no satisfaction" cover by DEV-O, "Suspicious minds" cover by Dwight Yoakom. But on a side note Elvis Presley is Elvis Presley and no one can duplicate him 100%.

I think Manfred Mann's 'Blinded by the light' (the extended version, with the slow & sweet guitar solo in the middle) is way better than Bruce Springsteen's version.
Also, Johnny Cash's version of 'Hung my head' is leaps and bounds better than Sting's version... If you go listen to Stings version, try not to carve your eardrums out.. |
