a/c non Pontiac
My 90 Chev pick up truck cools well going down the road, but warms up in traffic and standing still. It has been converted to 134. I have heard this is not uncommon. Is there anything that can be done to help with low speed cooling?
Thanks, Bill |

When that happened to my car, it was the electric radiator fan going out.
Air moves through when driving, and the air conditioner blows cold. As one slows, since the electric fanis not working, the air conditioner would not blow cold, but warm. AND it appeared that the electric fan was working, but it just was not moving enough air.

So at speed, the moving air is cooling the condensor out in front of the radiator??

Yes you have better air flow across the condenser when the vehicle is moving.
You also have better flow of the refrigerant because the compressor is running faster with the higher engine speed. . |

You can check this in your driveway with the hood open. The fan ought to blow lots and lots of air if it is working right. Just because it is moving does not mean it is working.
