Post up what ya got!!!
Here are a couple of mine!! 62 Lemans convertible "friction" car. Push it on the rug a couple of times & let it go!! This was given to me by a good friend before he passed away. He said he got it with the 62 he bought new. Kept it after he sold the car. Next is a 62 Tempest pen knife. Has no makers mark. Was in the glove box of a 62 LeMans I bought in Tucson Az.

Here ia a pic of my 1962 Tempest Coupe Promo. It is Caravan Gold. The interior is also molded in gold plastic so I dismantled it and painted interior saddle brown. It now matches my car and I display it in the back window of my car at shows.

Promo
Here is a 1962 Tempest LeMans post card. I have alot of people ask why the car has both Tempest and LeMans name tags on it. I use the postcard to help explain.

Does you car have any name or manufacturer on it? Mine is totally blank. I took it apart & there is nothing. Does your car have a friction motor?

No manufacturer name on my promo either. I took the 4 screws out from the chassis to check underneith, but no manufacturer there either. They are most likely made by JoHan or AMT.

62 Tempest Dealer Flyer
I recently came across this at a recent show a vender was selling. I have never seen this one and either did the vender. Thought the 62 owners would appreciate it.

Dealer / Pontiac Handout
Do not know if this qualifies for a Dealer Promo item but I never saw this one either until this year at a show and had to have it. Thought I would share it with the ohter 62 Tempest owners. (this is 4.5" high by 8.5" wide) Interesting fact was Mickey Thompson and his wife were the drivers of the cars.

Keith,
Seeing the ads GaryK posted, I'm reminded about the tale of how some Pontiac engineers rigged a "hidden" gas line in one of those "gas economy" Tempest cars. I can't remember the details. Do you know about that story? Seems like the engineers confessed to the trick quite some time after the event. |

I dont remember reading anything about that. I did read about a NASCAR car that had a "fuel" line that was severa inches in diamater & held a couple of gallons worth of fuel.

Are we mixing up our Smokey Yunick stories here? Smokey is said to have done the fat fuel line trick (among other tricks) in his racing days and he was also known for economy runs but I don't know of anybody ever accusing him of that. He exploited loopholes in the NASCAR 'rules', but rigging an economy run would be cheating and that was just not somthing Smokey Yunick would do.

I seem to recall that the "Tempest economy run" deal involved running a camoflaged gas line around the inside of the fenderwell. Does that ring a bell?

In 1967 George Hurst and Doc Watson were asked to prepare Pontiac cars for the 67 Mobil economy run. It was reported by Mobil officials that there were hidden fuel bladders in the windshield post on two Bonnevilles that were chosen for the event. The cars achieved a unprecedented 25mpg average, Mobile officials investigated and quickly disqualified the whole Pontiac team ( bad news for Pontiac as they were looking forward to the new OHC six to set records.) John DeLorean was embarrassed over the fiasco, but never admitted to having any knowledge of the cheating.

Promotional Items
Here's an early dealership sign that has to be from the 1961 to 1963 era that I dug out. It's not neon, but lights up in a rainbow of colors.
