Default BBC into '67 leMans

What does it take to drop a BBC into a '67 lemans? I have access to a turn key 396 out of a '68 Chevelle SS. I thought that I could drop the BBC into the car along with a TH400 tranny. So, what would it take? Chevy engine mounts/frame brackets? transmission cross member? Engine wiring? I want to figure out the small things that im not thinking of that will cost money. Thanks, nik

Still an A body car, right? Will the frame mounts from a chevelle bolt right into the frame?

For the life of me I wouldn't know why you would do this... but having pulled a couple chevy anchors out of goats I can answer your question. Yes. Go get all the parts off of a chevelle... and if it's a nice chevelle you might consider it as a home for the chev motor.

Frame mounts from a '66 or '67 Chevelle will bolt in. '68 and up mounts will not.

If the LeMans has the original transmission in it, the crossmember will need to be moved back 6-1/2 inches and the driveshaft shortened a bit for the TH400.
If it is originally a V-8 car, the starter and fuel pump will be on the opposite side.

Thank you. It is only a thought. I have not even bought the car yet. Just thinking options. I thought that I could use a BBC to get the car running since I am on a tight budget. I would keep the pontiac engine and possibly build it correctly when I have the money. I'd like to do it if I can without permanently violating or modifying the car. Again, only a thought.

Please just buy a PONTIAC engine thats running to install in the car to move it around etc...,All that work to install a junk 396 isn't worth it.

So much for a budget build... looking at new headers? While I could not argue that a piece of chit small block chevy might be cheaper to get running IF you had all the parts donated for the install... There is NO WAY it is cheaper to install a big block chevy...

Yeah, I have a built big block and was just entertaining all of my options. I have been a chevy guy for a while and was having a hard time wrapping my head around building anything but. My car has a strong 400c.i./th400 out of a 70-72 pontiac. I have been looking around at parts and will be building that engine up a little I think. probably intake, headers, carb, cam and maybe some head work.

Now your talkin! look at the Street performance section on this site. Remember a Pontiac is a different animal than a BBC, plenty of good advice on this site.
