1969 GTO- Power Antenna Question
My power antenna on the rear deck still works, but operates very slow. I seem to recall there is a person named Frank from Gainsville, Florida who can rebuild or can recondition power antennas. Any assistance on a contact or place to send the antenna would be appreciated.

Before spending money sending it out you should test it directly to a battery, to eliminate if the problem is just a bad switch or damaged or corroded power wiring. A good cleaning of the mast fully extended and a tweaking of obvious bends can go a long way also.

Excellent suggestions! I am confident the switch is not the issue since the mast does move when the switch is activated. The antenna is slow to move up and will stop about half way. The last rung is slightly bent, due to age. I will clean and apply a lubricate. Any suggestions about the best type of lubricate to minimize friction? As an alternative, although the car has been garaged since it was purchaed new (car has been in family since purchase), there may be some merit in having the antenna specialist take it apart and recondition.....still pondering.
Thanks again. |

The outside of the mast is not supposed to be lubricated. Lubrication just catches road grime which then gets drawn in by retracting but you can use WD40 to help clean it and then wipe of the residue with a clean dry rag.
The switch can work but be dirty or carboned up on the contacts. Either try the antenna directly with a battery to test speed or measure the voltage drop from the battery installed in the engine bay through the dash switch to the connecter in the trunk.
