Default Will A NASA Hood Bolt Up and Work On....

My 1975 Lemans Safari Wagon?? I always thought that one would look good on my '75 Lemans Safari Wagon but I want to make sure all the bodylines from the hood to the car lined up before I started chasing this goose.
Thanks Fellas!

i've got one with some rust along the outer edges. it comes attached to a 74 g/am that needs floors but has other good parts.

i've been thinking of sectioning the induction area into a g/p hood like another member did.

Hey Josh- I'll bet you a cup of coffee that you're talking about an NACA scoop- the unique air duct shape developed in 1945 by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics. NASA == National Aeronautics & Space Administration... ain't no air in outer space!

I agree, Jack. I have always called them NACA scoops, as does the Pontiac literature I have on them...but somewhere along the way it has become acceptible to also call them NASA scoops.

My manuals are parts manuals for the '73 model year...the kind the dealers had behind the parts counter, with exploded views, etc.

All say NACA.

I guess this is comparable to Cape Canaveral/Cape Kennedy (LOL).

......or maybe the GM Canada marketing people found most Canadians recognized NASA over NACA. It will be NACA/NASA from now on for me.

NACA is correct . It is named after the scoop design. It has nothing to do with the US space program.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NACA_duct

I also agree it should fit

No, read the link that you posted. NACA was the name of the governing organization (at that time) that developed the scoop. However, NACA was the original name of what became NASA (name was changed, but the focus of their work remained much the same), and so the terms are often used interchangably.

"The NACA duct or NACA scoop is a common form of low-drag intake design, originally developed by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics in 1945. "

I am not debating that the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics later became NASA. I am stating that the duct in the hood is called a NACA duct, not a NASA duct. Thus the hood being called a NACA hood. Thanks

GM can call the darn hood whatever it wants. While the duct is properly called a NACA duct, if GM wanted to market that hood as "The Ugliest Damn GTO Hood Ever Sold" or TUDGTOHES hood, they could just like they marketed it as a NASA hood in the Canadian Sales Literature I referenced. I think the name of the hood is up to the people who sell it. Regardless it is one of the most desireable pieces for the 73-75 cars. I have one but it sure is funny looking imo. People seem to love it though.
