Can anyone give me any direction on this?
Anyone? will they still hit when full suspension is in place?

Default headers

with the proper motor mounts and frame brackets for the olds motor along with a set of headers for a 442 everything should be ok, new springs and shocks would be a good idea, mine sat for quite a few years also, new springs put it right were it should be. jd

I do like the idea of slowly collecting the parts for a tri-power setup. I'll purchase them as i find im albe too. and it's just a good deal. Then i will consider pulling it down the road. maybe. But the olds is complete and i want it to stay that way for a while. I may never change it.

One thing also to add, the drive shaft was custom made for the rear end and transmission which is an automatic. But i still have the four speed in the barn.

Is the 4speed a Muncie or Saginaw tranny?

I just realized that the olds is out of a 75-78 year model car. Do i still need the same brackets? to mount up in the goat?

Greg's got it, and as his link says..... "The Muncie is distinguished from the Saginaw in that the reverse lever on the Muncie is mounted in the extension housing, where the Saginaw reverse lever is mounted in the side cover." I do know that my 66 I had in 70 had a Saginaw in it..... said so in the right side of the case or maybe it was the tail housing... not sure.

Believe it or not, I drove my 66 I bought in 70 from school to home, 270 miles, with little or no gear oil in it. What a noise it made. Got to a garage as soon as I got home and found that out. Once it was filled it was ok. Saginaws are tougher than some say they are.

So if im not using this trans?... Would i be able to sell for some cash to put back into my car? Because it's sitting there with it's hand out. Is it worth anything?

FireAm80, the value will depend on whether it's a Muncie or Saginaw, what shape it's in, and if the complete shifter is included or not.

If I were you I'd hang on to it. It's part of the matching numbers drivetrain and that makes the car worth more. You might want to put it all back to matching numbers someday.

The last year for a 455 was 1976. Post the numbers on the front of the block by the oil fill tube and the letter on the head. That will tell us what it really is.

A big thing for you to know is Olds cranks are not drilled for pilot bearings if it wasnt a manual crank to begin with. If its the stock 1976 crank, its not a manual crank. Your choices are to drill the crank to make the bearing fit or use an adapter if you choose to use a manual transmission.
