455 Swap to 66 GTO
I am not an A body guy and an Italian friend asked me about 455 swap to his 66 GTO. I did a quick search but am still confused. Right now he has no frame mounts.
From what I read he needs to buy stock frame mounts for the 66 but what motor mounts will work on the 455 to the stock frame mounts? Thanks. |

Aloha,
It's been a very long time (15+ yrs) since I added the 455 into my car, but I remember I just used the existing frame mounts and the 455 motor mounts dropped right in. There was no real issue in doing that swap. Hope that helps.

You can stay with the standard V shaped frame mounts but whether the block will bolt in depends on the year it was made and the motor mounts it should use.. Does it have three mount holes on each side or five? Get the adapters that allow you to put a newer engine in an older car - the cutoff being 1969-1970 and use the older motor mounts. Look up the Wallace Racing website.

Block has 5 holes. So what year/model mounts should he use?

If he has 5 holes, then the mounts will work, no problems. I put a 72 455 in with new stock A-Body mounts for 326-389 for 1966.

Any year 455 will drop right in using the same engine mounts that a 326 or 389 use.
