I made one for my car. I used a thin piece(20 or 22 gauge) of metal from Lowe's and bought two metal hole saws from Home Depot. I got a 2" and a 3 1/2". I was able to cut one ring before the saw blades dulled. I took them back and Home Depot refunded my money.

what brand were they?
Ive used holes saws on hundreds of holes and they normally last at least 50 each.
But I always buy the good ones...greenlee,lenox,morse,milwaukee,etc.

I can't remember for sure but I think they were Rigid bi-metal. Lowes didn't have the correct sizes and these were the only metal saws at Home Depot. They cost about $20.00 each. The store manager said they should not have worn out so quickly. I showed him the piece of metal and there were still traces of the cutting oil I used.

Cammer,
Hope these pictures will help. Measurement is taken from the lip of the metal between the two ridges. The hole is 2" inside diameter and 3 1/4" outside. To get the outside you have to use a 3 1/2" hole saw. In the second picture you can see the 3 1/2" cut. That is to the outside of the blade. The inside will give you 3 1/4" I made the large cut first then clamped it to a wood block and made the 2" cut.
The shifter is mounted with metal screws and fiber washers. I think the screws are 1/4" by 1" hex head. The washers are about 1/4" thick.

OK thanks
patch plate is in and sealed
now its time to cut a hole and mount the shifter.
I may make a few of the retainers if anyone else needs one.
But I dont have the exact hole placement for mounting holes.
So the bolts are sheet metal thread or are they machine screw thread with a rivetnut
in the floor pan?

Mine are sheetmetal thread. You might want to check with some other PYers too make sure.

Cammer,
Attached are two pictures, one of the original grommet and one of the original retainer ring with the new Shiftworks cable installed.
Note that the screw locations are not symmetrical around the circumference.
Outside diameter is 3 1/4', inside raised portion is 2". Do you need more info?
Screws are sheetmetal thread.

any chance of getting a measurement for correct placement of shifter?
I see no dimples that would indicate where its placed.
On another note of the 2 inch hole placement, I used the provided measurements,
thanks guys,
and my door to door measurements were 3/8 inch wider.
So I tried to fudge the measurements and split the difference by 3/16 inch.
The hole ended up partially into the patch panel that was placed over the old 4 speed hole.

Since I was adding console and shifter to a column shift car, I used the console to locate the shifter properly. It is rather easy to tell where it has to go, due to the contours of the bottom of the console.

Cammer,
I got the best measurements I could with the shifter installed. There are three ridges on the tunnel near the back seat. I hooked my tape over the front ridge and maesured 27 1/4" to the center of the rear mounting bolt.
Then I measured in from the seam on the passenger side door opening 27 11/16".

So I made a couple of retainers for the OEM grommet and they
dont fit right on the grommet attached to the replacement cable.
Does anyone know what type of 2 hole grommet this is?
See post #49 for reference to the 2 hole one.

Cammer,
Mine didn't either, check my second to last post.
I just decided to use the original ring and didn't even trim the grommet to match, YET.

have any idea where the 2 hole grommet came from so I can get a retainer that fits it?
Since I have no mounting hole in floorboard I have no problem with using one for a 2 hole vs the factory one with 3 holes.
