I have a 1965 GTO that is an original, unrestored car. The exhaust manifolds on both sides are missing the front and rear bolts. The center 4 bolts are all that are holding the manifolds. There are no exhaust leaks and no broken bolts that I see.
Is this a factory thing or a repair along the way? Thanks.

If you were to remove the exhaust manifold you would find that there are NOT any threaded holes in the head to receive the bolts. I'm not sure what years Pontiac did this, but my 70 350 had the same thing. My freinds 65 421 DID have the threaded holes in the head. Maybe someone with more knowlage can let us know what years these holes were missing in the heads.

Bob,
Have you looked through the holes in the exhaust manifold to determine if the heads have a threaaded hole? If you have 65 "77" as you should then there will be a threaded hole. If not the heads have probably been changed. There should have been bolts in the holes as assembled from the factory.

The heads are threaded and the heads are "77" heads.
