Default Another Car Publication Gone

I received the January 2025 issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines and included with the magazine was a letter saying the February, 2025 issue will be the last one. The magazine will be absorbed into Hemmings Motor News.

I always thought this was the best overall car magazine along with Poncho Perfection for Pontiacs over the last decade. Now both are gone!

I got mine too. Magazine had been getting a little thin lately, but still plenty of advertising in it. Eventually I guess none will exist.

I have been a subscriber of H M N for over 25 yrs. I keep telling myself to drop it due to all the foreign car stuff and ads that I have no interest in. Not like it was over 25 yrs ago. I want to look for 34 Plymouth, 36 Olds 54 Ford cars etc. I have nothing against the muscle cars and I appreciate the work that goes into them. I just like original.

Such a bummer. I really enjoyed that magazine, and even got published in it a couple of times. The last few issues were pretty light so it wasn’t hard to see the writing on the wall.

Hate to hear that news. I have really enjoyed HMM for many years.

The last 3-4 issues seemed to lean heavily toward highly modified muscle cars and most were LS or modern Hemi conversions. I guess that is what the editors thought might help them survive, but I was considering dropping the magazine for that exact reason. Guess my decision has been made for me. Now if I want to see a muscle car with a modern drive train transplant I will have to go to a cars and coffee! About half of the old muscle cars there have already been converted. It's the future I guess.

Bummer. I really enjoyed HMM, but I also felt it had recently been leaning too heavily towards resto-mods.

Burd, I believe the number of printed Smoke Signals will be reduced to 3 or 4 a year?. Possibly eliminate printed copies in the future to electronic only. It is coming...

I believe Collectible Automobile is still published bi-monthly.

Still a top notch magazine but not too many muscle cars.

Sad to see this but not surprised at all.

One by one we've seen this over the years. The brand specific magazines went first, then one by one the others are following suit.

It's a TOUGH economy out there for any business with the cost of EVERYTHING at record highs and customer count at record lows.

As for magazines in general we haven't had subscriptions for anything coming to our house in at least 15 years. Why would we spend money for free information? Since the entire population that's old enough to talk walks around all day long with a hand held computer and most of them have their face it is 24/7, anything you'd ever want, or want to know is just a touch of the screen away........FWIW.........

I've been subscribed to Hemmings Muscle Machines and Hemmings Classic Cars since the beginning. Very sad to see them go, as I like an actual printed magazine or book to read, not a screen shot. I stopped subscribing to Hemmings Motor News years ago and have no real interest in it as I am not in the market for anything. Sad times, indeed.

The writing has been on the wall at Hemmings for a few years now. They changed editors a few years ago and things went downhill. I suppose if I were 30 years younger I would understand, but everything in there seemed to be so dumbed down it wasnt worth reading. I used to look forward to getting them in the mail. At one time I got all of their pubs. I would read cover to cover the day one came in. I think the last 3 issues are still on my stand without even being opened. Just the same ole blah blah blah content.
I still get smoke signals and I like the articles. I also get old cars which is pretty good. I have been subscribing to crankshaft since the first issue but even that has changed a bit.

Smoke Signals will be 9 print issues annually with $45 membership. E-Membership is $25. They down scaled issue count to avoid big dues increases for the same reasons as those going out of business. Hemmings is also discontinuing their Hemmings Classic Car. Remaining subscription issues will be replaced with Hemmings Motor News monthly.

I did enjoy Muscle Machines for many years. I've still got the Smoke Signals. Who knows how long they will keep printing that for us.

I have been a P.O.C.I member since 1976. I still enjoy Smoke Signals in paper format and was not pleased when they reduced the magazine to 9 a year. When they reduce that number to 6 issues or quarterly, I will end a nearly lifelong association. They are the last Pontiac paper magazine standing. The stories from Dimitrie Toth each month are worth the cost of the dues to me.

A year or two ago for reasons I don't understand, HMM opted to not let me know that my subscription was expiring;
I used to get a bagged issue giving me a "heads up" as well as emails in years prior to this...

I have been buying it from the newsstand since that time.

I have TONS of back issues, and really believe that HMM has been the best multi-marque musclecar magazine for a looong time.

I am sad to read this.

I would still be a paid subscriber to POCI if the subscription rates for Canadians were not so cost prohibitive (I was told the mailing rates were based on Australian subscription mailing costs);
It's a nice magazine, but not nearly 'meat heavy' like HMM...

I saw the January issue of HMM before Christmas, but held off on buying it incase my wife had bought a copy for me already (we have a mutual agreement to not buy ourself anything for about two months put from Christmas);
Well post-Christmas, I haven’t been able to find another January issue… and I’ve looked.

Tonight I found a February copy.
I see that Terry McGean’s editorial does in fact mention that this is the final issue.

It’s disappointing, but better to have an editorial send off rather than nothing - as it happened with HPP.
