I know the "three on the tree" was still the standard transmission on a base Firebird in 1970...

I like the column shift auto cars - neat stuff. But I like the 4-speeds with no consoles, too. Just something about the interior looking "cleaner" without the console.

I have had a few (rookie) people think my Formula is not a real Formula, since visually there is basicallly only a hood and two emblems and exhaust tips to set it apart from a base bird or Esprit. Like there is no way a column shift is for a hot rod. I also almost all the time get average non Poncho addict people say they have never seen a column shift in any kind of 70's bird (or Camaro) and they are just amazed at mine. (I didn't say impressed, note)..... I have NEVER had anyone say "Holy Sh!t! I always wanted a column shift"!!! The couple people on here who say they like them are mutant freaks just like the cars The cool thing is that on this site a few years ago, nobody had anything good to say about them They are now elevated to "Acceptably Unusual" status. Sort of.
