Default Hybrid Valve Lash

Slowly, over the last week or so, I’ve been checking the lash on my hyd roller cam / solid roller lifter “hybrid”. It’s been a few years and about 2500 miles since last time. After a few evenings disassembly, I managed to get to the point where I actually checked a few tonight and probably could have saved the effort. I use .005 and so far they’ve been either .005 or .006. I have polished the valve covers and the fan and will put on new belts, so that’s a plus. A sore shoulder makes the process slow which can’t be a bad thing.

Looks like your golden with little to no ware having taken place in 2500 miles.
Retorque the heads gaskets if you have not done so already and slap it all back together and enjoy.!

I too run a hybrid valve train. Over the last 4 years, I have only found one valve to be out by .001 which is probably where I set it a tad loose. I put about 3000-5000 miles a year on mine and check it annually while doing my other maintenance.

I wouldn't expect it to move unless something goes horribly wrong, especially with just 2500 miles, but always a good idea to periodically check and catch anything early.

One of our daily drivers is a solid flat tappet, and with just over 30k miles now the valve lash has been perfect with no change.

I checked the valve lash on my solid flat tappet 455 and no adjustments were necessary after about 5k miles.

I’m confused how your running that tight of clearance and not having a issue? Are your checks hot, cold or both. Most solid rollers are recommended to be set .015 - .025 depending on the cam.

This a solid roller lifter (Crower 66260h) on a hyd roller cam (230/236 Comp). Tight is good.

How did you decide on .005 clearance?

I set mine at .005 and checked them at 500 miles and they were exaclty the same. Took the opportunity to open them to .006 and don't plan on checking them again for awhile.

After this, I suspect that mine will remain unchecked for a good little while also. I finished the actual lash setting last night and my shoulder suggested that I leave it right there and go find the heating pad. I think I can have the rest of it put back together by sometime Saturday morning.

Aside from the drama I had with the PRW stainless full roller rocker arms (having to check the lash a couple of times over a period of a few days until I discovered the rockers were worn heavily at the roller end where the pin goes thru them) mine have had three adjustments in 11 years. I just did one last week and none were over .006" and it's been quite a while since I checked them.

I check mine dead cold and have a Ford solenoid with a push button on it to make the job quick/easy. It takes longer to get the covers off than it does to lash the valves!......Cliff

On my street car I permanently wired in a KD tools 124 push button switch to my solenoid for easy lash settings and hot start issues before we had mini starters.
When not needed I stuffed it in small plastic Sandwich bag tied off closed and tucked it under the power brake booster.

It saved me from being stuck many times until I went the Ford remote solenoid route!
