Steering column distance
When you’re installing an ididit column how far do you let it protrude out from the dash? I have in there all the way up to the fat part where the switch assembly is but that leaves no room for the little dash piece the goes under the column that was part of the way the old one was held in.

I'm not sure if your 64 is the same as my 67, but bolt The bracket that mounts the column to the dash onto the column. If memory serves me right you have to reuse the existing bracket. That will give you the distance the column sticks out from the dash.

I have not had the time to go look but with only the fat part of the column coming thru the dash you can’t put the dash trim that cradled the old column. You cant see it unless you know what you are looking for. The column is held in by two 9/16 bolts but the shaft could be bolted down anywhere in the steering column as you can slide it in and out
