HerdsWoman asked me to post this for her:
Member Bill Kluasing's 1963 Catalina Safari Race Car and Trailer were stolen Wednesday April 25. Be on the look out for a two tone silver Catalina Safari wagon or it's rare parts at swap meets or events. The car had a medium silver carbon fibre hood with a black Super Stock Mopar ram air hood circa 1967. Carbon fibre grill. Plexaglass windows. 455 with Jim Butler heads. American Torque Trust D front runners and Weld Wheels with slicks. The car was fully caged with a fuel cell. View the car in the clubs web site photos. Look at all the club events to get a better idea of the cars appearance. The car was originally black in the early photos and medium silver upper with light silver sides in later photos and now. Call Bill at (248) 844-8977, let ring at least 10 times than leave message. Or e-mail Durastoy1@aol.com.

This reminds me of when Paul Spott's 9-sec. Firebird was stolen last year. Sad to say, Paul never saw "hide nor hair" of that car again. I suspect the same may come true for this Catalina. Probably a professional job for some overseas collector. The police thought Paul's car was cut-up and parted but I think not. Someone overseas is enjoying it (like a Jap capitalist or some Arab shiek's nephew).

The email we received did not say where the car was stolen from, but the majority of the members are in southeastern Michigan (Ann Arbor-Detroit area) or Toledo, Ohio area.

I frequent Moroso Motorsports park in West Palm. Not to say it would show up down here but ya never know. Kinda hard to hide a 63' Cat Safari drag car no matter what color it is. They don't realize Pontiac people are a tightly knit group, even nationwide. If I see anything I'll be sure to inform everyone.

The car was stolen from the Pontiac, Michigan area.
The Royal website is http://clubs.hemmings.com/royalpont/ Scroll to 'pictures', click on 'members', and click on Bill Klausing's wagon. The car was still black in the picture. It can also be see at www.stationwagon.com/gallery/1963_Pontiac_Catalina.html Any help is appreciated. Thank You! |

I took a good hard look at the Catalina Wagon that was stolen. It seems like quite a nice car, but not super rare or extremely desirable(not counting the owner). However, based on its low 12 second 1/4 mile times, I think it was stolen for it's drivetrain, which will undoubtedly show up in a smaller car(GTO Firebird). Probably a local job, pulled by weasels who frequent the same 1/4 mile track that the Catalina often did.

I'm really sorry to hear about Bill's Cat Wagon. I met Bill a couple of years ago. When I was working on putting the Pontiac 400 engine in my '39 Pontiac street rod, Bill came out to the house to check it out and make up a custom AC mounting bracket for me. He didn't know me from Adam, but because I asked, he was there. He loves his '63's. I hope the Cat shows up somewhere and he gets it back in one piece.
