Default Shed find!!!

Or should I say “behind the shed” find.

I came across a '72 GTO on Craigslist that was supposedly a 455HO car. After several conversations with the owner, I verified there is an “X” in the VIN along with some other nice options.

After kicking it around for a few days and talking with my son about it, he convinced me that we should at least go and check it out.

So, after a 4 hour drive out to PA here’s what we found…

Did it follow you home? Does it still have the H O in it?

Cool find...very interesting mag wheels on it too. They sure look like Rally II's. What are they? Ditto on the HO and did you buy it.

Looks like it has the big 8O amp alternator on it too. Usually only the cars equipped with a/c and the rear defrost had that but, it could have been ordered with the hd alt. Does it have the heated rear glass? Guessing it does.

That doesn't look bad at all - sport mirrors and maybe Formula wheel??? Could it be a WW-5?

Yes, we did buy it...

Overall the car is pretty solid. Unfortunately, the original engine is gone. Someone also removed the A/C as well.
The wheels are pretty neat, they are aluminum Keystone's. I've never seen them before.
That's interesting about the 80 amp alt. It does have the electric rear window defog. Would the brackets be different on a car without that alt??

Yes, ps and alt brackets are unique with 8Oamp alt. Also, ps and alt belts should be the same with that set up. Your car did originally ave a/c? that explains it.
Looks like a nice find. measure the rear sway bar, it may have the Y99 susp package or , better yet a WW5 which is the ultimate GTO. Only about 29O WW5s made. PHS docs would be a good idea or, look for the build sheet under carpet or between fuel tank and trunk floor.

Nice find! Can you post a closeup of those wheels? I've never seen those before either. What are your resto plans?

Scott

Car was local to me. Being that if I got another project I would be shot, hanged and somehow mutilated by the wife...So I never looked.

Was for a pretty reasonable price too. (not mine to disclose)

And if you're getting rid of the mags, I'd be interested. (Send a PM)

Boss, it does have the Formula wheel..

I have to say, you guys know your stuff! I was wondering how quick someone would pick up on some of the options.. This is in fact a WW5 car!! Here are some picks of the interior and the rear 1 1/8'' sway bar..
I will try to get some close up picks of the wheels this week...

Early build - I'm going to guess November - Pontiac plant. Cardinal Red over black with black or white cordova top? AC & 8 track!!! NICE! Did you get the lower pan with it? What motor is in it? Any other parts laying around....I always ask.

I've got two - it won't be your last.

Congrats on a great find! Love that picture of the shed with the car's nose peeking out. Classic!

This is going to be a great looking car when done.

A side note...a BLACK center console, not white, as some here have hashed over what is "correct"

Oh, sorry, not in this thread, in other threads that subject has come up. Just pointing it out is all.
