Default Signal-Stat Flare-Stat 105 hazard flasher - What is correct for 1965 / Installation

Hi,

I would like to purchase and install a Signal-Stat Flare-Stat 105 hazard flasher.

However, there is a confusing variety of versions. I would be happy to see pictures of the correct one and the installation instructions as well.

Thank you!

Flarestat sold to both the aftermarket and to dealers with a specific part number. Some of the aftermarket pieces had logos on the knob such as the Chevy bowtie, GMC, etc. There were several styles of knobs and mounting brackets. Shown is a Pontiac accessory part and the style was pretty much the same for all GM divisions. If you find a NOS piece it should have the instructions. If not, just do a search for flarestat instructions.

My 69 and 74 parts catalog lists the following: 65-66 All, # 9777567, Switch, Hazard Flasher (w/harness) Group 2.575. New Old Stock (NOS) is out there but may be hard to find. A good used one will work as long as it is complete and not all hacked up.

As I previously stated the design was the same for the 64-66 years for all of the GM line so any of them should work. I bought a NOS for an Oldsmobile and the instructions shows it fit Cutlass, Toronado, and full size Olds. I used it on my 64 GTO and it was pretty much a plug and play with the same connectors as shown in the first picture. The only thing I had to do was use a different 12V power source.

Thank you! It would be great if you could post the included instructions/wiring diagram. There are a few on the web but they are all for different applications.

6262,

I removed this #105 from a 1965 Tempest in a wrecking yard about 40 years ago.
Back then in the SF Bay Area the wrecking yards had Plenty of these cars.

As mentioned above this unit is a simple plug in and play.

Here is a portion of the instructions. In PDF so I hope you can open it. Very simply, you disconnect the directional signal wires at the bottom the of steering column from the dash harness, then plug the directional signal wires into the Flarestat and the other Flarestat connector into the dash harness. The wire routing may be a bit different but won’t be a problem.

60sstuff posted some good pictures of a complete unit and that is what you need. As long as you find a GM accessory unit it should have those connectors. As I previously noted, my Oldsmobile flasher hooked right up to my Pontiac.

As an alternative you might look at using a Roberk 60s era flasher. I had one of these on my car and only swapped it out when I found a NOS GM part. On the Roberk the wires crimp/splice into the directional signal wires.

Great, thank you. What did you use as a power source? I would be grateful if you could attach the accompanying wiring diagramm that comes with the instructions. Due to legal regulations in Germany I need to add an module to this which makes sure that the flasher overrides the brake light. The vendor said it will work with the Flare-Stat.

6262,
The instructions are included in my last post as “attached files” and are for the Flarestat only. I understand the need for the override module (which should have instructions) but have no idea how that is connected. Don’t need that here and in fact no law that I know of that requires hazard flashers on old cars. Any constant hot 12 volt power point will work. Sounds like you might need a professional shop to do the install. Good luck.

Thanks. But I did not ask for instructions about the module but the wiring diagram which came with the dealer option Flare-Stats together with the instructions posted by you. Your set should have contained one.
