The quick buck will do that to you. The thing that makes it sound believable is the holes for the support tabs are already there. Anyway, thanks X-Bird2!

My '74 SD TA did not have any hood insulation. I bought it new in Jan '74. I've never seen one that had it.

So here's the question, if that was a '73 SD would it have already sold for that price?

I don't fully agree. That chrome bumper adds to it too!

The front and rear give the 73 car that older vintage race car look that the rest of the later cars dont carry. Seems like the end of that era thus being more desirable from most.
I love the look however the 74 and up has been growing on me more and more!

Default 1973 Engine Paint Formula??

Has anyone used the custom mix listed on this page:
http://www.angelfire.com/mi/jamos1/sdblueformula.html

I got a pint mixed up today and it doesn't look very blue. It looks more like grey. I don't have any original parts to compare with. I would hate to paint my engine install it in the car, and then figure out when it is next to an original that the color is wayyyy off. Any suggestions?

I think I really need something that has the correct color on it for comparison. Anyone have a way of sampling their correct color for me? Like on a bolt, piece of cardboard something you can send me. I am more than happy to spend a few bucks to make sure I get the color correct.

Thanks,
Tom

OEM paints makes an aerosol for the SD455 engine paint. It is an excellent match and is good quaility paint. It is called slate blue, it has been discussed here before. You should be able to find the old thread with a search.

Tom,
I used that formula and I also had that concern, but here is how it came out, one outside and one inside as it looks different depending on the light.

That is a big difference in color outside/inside. Did you have anything original to compare colors? Did you get a quart mixed?

Maybe I screwed up getting a pint only, but I think the paint shop would know how to reduce the formula for 1/2. The open can of paint looks really grey. Definitely, a slate color.

Thanks for the replies.

Didn't have anything to go on, I had them mix up a quart and had it painted at my cousins body shop. Several members on this board have seen it and said it looks like the 74 color.

1973formula, Several years ago (before rattle can colors were available) I purchased a quart of PPG SD colored engine paint that Scott Tieman & Dan Jensen had color matched to an original SD engine. Recently, I painted portions of my SD engine & sprayed a sample sheet. I passed out samples at the TA Nats to numerous SD owners including TAKID. Maybe he, & others, can chime in on their opinion of the correctness of the color sample. If you wish to have a sample, pm me with your address and I will mail you a sample.

Correction to the last post: TAKID should have been TAKID455
