Few more cars in the Pic other than the RX7 which was parked right in front of my garage several years back

70 Formula 400 just a bit showing above the rear glass of the Mazda - was worried about hitting the cars with the plow.

The Tecumseh 6 HP pictured on the Jacobsen Imperial I bought struggles with heavy snow, may just need the carb set properly. If after getting the carb dialed in if it still doesn't have enough oomph, it may be time for "MORE POWER". Argh argh argh.

Definitely didn’t forget 2014 , here’s a couple pictures of that! The first picture is after we got the first 4 1/2 feet and I’m trying to get out to the shop to fire up the tractor later that night we got another foot and a half and then the next morning another foot and a half , totaling almost 8 foot of snow in 24 hours

LOL! Yeah, we got hit pretty good that time.

I'm exactly halfway between Buffalo and Rochester and thought I got blasted with my 3 to 3-1/2 feet. I called a buddy of mine halfway between me and Buffalo and he said he had 7 feet.

Suddenly, I didn't feel so bad.

The absolute worst snow storm I've ever been in was outside of Rochester, and I've seen my share of bad ones in Erie.

Mid March I was going to my bosses house in Rochester, a Yellow Freight truck jack knifed in front of me about 8AM blocking both lanes on the interstate. I sat there all day while snow came down really hard for about 6-7 hours. The snow finally stopped about 3 PM and the sun came out. I couldn't open the doors on the cab of the truck I was driving (F 350 service truck). A plow finally opened up one lane and got the semi straightened out, and off the road. It took me 20 minutes of rocking that truck to get it into the plowed lane. The snow had piled up to the bottom of the windows on the doors (Over 40 inches of snow in 8 hours). Nothing I've been through in Erie ever put that much down in 8 hours, average 5-6 inches an hour.

Being Buffalo/Rochester is is at the furthest eastern point of Lake Erie, they and usually get hit harder than Erie did, it all depends which way the wind is blowing, how much water it picks up from the lake, and dumps it as soon as it gets over land.

We used to get bad ones up in Northern NY. About like what Brad and Telly showed. And a few times far worse. 1957, 70, and 77 were really bad... over 30 inches for those 3 years alone. Other years just about as bad. Lake effect winter storms up the St. Lawrence River from Lake Ontario were not fun at all.

This map might surprise you. Total snowfall amounts this season.

I'm smack in the middle of the dark red area in upstate NY. Other than the Rockies I'm not seeing many places that get more snow than us on average. Upper Maine, top edge of Minnesota etc. Jeez, the wilderness up in Maine gets a ton of snow. And they are probably logging all winter.

https://www.nohrsc.noaa.gov/snowfall/

You have to click the season accumulation button at the top.

Looking at the map, I went from 8-10 ft per season , to 2-3 feet per season ...... That's a big difference......

We MIGHT get one snowfall a year that reminds me of Erie, but usually we have between 1-3 inches per event, I can easily deal with that. The worst thing we have here is we're just south of I 70 which seems to be the border of winter rain, and snow, so we do see some ice storms here, those suck if they hang around any length of time.

We also get high winds here, worse than Erie, wind damage is fairly common here. Then in the spring, and early summer there is always the threat of tornadoes. In the 47 years I lived in Erie there was only one deadly tornado. Down here we had the Memorial Day tornado in Dayton a few years ago, that ripped up a big portion of the Dayton area.

Most of the locals are getting smarter and putting metal roofs on their homes to minimize wind damage. Three years ago I replaced our shingle roof with metal. I'm much happier with the metal roof, over shingles.

The weather has been the best snow removal tool around here lately. Although it might rain/snow today the Motorcraft temp needle read 70 degrees yesterday.

In that 1966 Syracuse paper, look at the article about Oswego- 101" of snow in 3 days! I believe Oswego averages over 300" per season.
