Default 4 X 10 front speaker for 67 GTO:

Does anybody know who makes a front speaker that fits a 67 GTO without having to make any modifications to the speaker mount. I bought a speaker from classic car stereos that I thought would fit but I'm going to have to cut the speaker housing to be able to adapt the factory brackets that came off the previous speaker. A lot of companies make speakers with these side tabs that get in the way, so I cut them off. Now I can't return the speaker, so I have to make it work. The previous speaker was a radio shack speaker that fit perfect (low profile). Problem is, it was a radio shack speaker. I had to buy 1" standoffs to be able to use my brackets but one of the brackets is hitting the gauges.

Update:
New speaker won't work. Speaker is 2.3 inches tall. Distance from a/c ductwork to the dash is approximately 2 inches. Speaker magnet is hitting ductwork. I thought it would work but didn't factor in the ductwork being in the way. More wasted time and money on this car. I wish some speaker company would make a speaker that fits this car and not have to modify it to get it to fit.

If you can find an original speaker with the brackets, you can get it re-coned with a new 10-ohm voice coil. I had that done years ago from these guys: https://orbanaudio.com/ The thing looked like new when they were done, and it was cheap... back then at least. They even put new cloth over the cone.

https://jvrestorations.com/JV Restorations is another place that recones speakers among other things. I lost count how many speakers he did for me. They are 10 ohm and sound great with factory radios. The ones in the photos were done in 2014.

Ames sells a speaker that clears the AC on 67 cars.
