Does anybody know who makes a front speaker that fits a 67 GTO without having to make any modifications to the speaker mount. I bought a speaker from classic car stereos that I thought would fit but I'm going to have to cut the speaker housing to be able to adapt the factory brackets that came off the previous speaker. A lot of companies make speakers with these side tabs that get in the way, so I cut them off. Now I can't return the speaker, so I have to make it work. The previous speaker was a radio shack speaker that fit perfect (low profile). Problem is, it was a radio shack speaker. I had to buy 1" standoffs to be able to use my brackets but one of the brackets is hitting the gauges.

Update:
New speaker won't work. Speaker is 2.3 inches tall. Distance from a/c ductwork to the dash is approximately 2 inches. Speaker magnet is hitting ductwork. I thought it would work but didn't factor in the ductwork being in the way. More wasted time and money on this car. I wish some speaker company would make a speaker that fits this car and not have to modify it to get it to fit. ![]() |

If you can find an original speaker with the brackets, you can get it re-coned with a new 10-ohm voice coil. I had that done years ago from these guys: https://orbanaudio.com/ The thing looked like new when they were done, and it was cheap... back then at least. They even put new cloth over the cone.

https://jvrestorations.com/JV Restorations is another place that recones speakers among other things. I lost count how many speakers he did for me. They are 10 ohm and sound great with factory radios. The ones in the photos were done in 2014.

Ames sells a speaker that clears the AC on 67 cars.
