BINGO....WINNER
EMAIL ME denniskirban@yahoo.com your full name & address to send you a prize. According to Paul and Chucks GTO Restoration Guide this was a dealer installed option mostly 4 speed related to strengthen the rear frame crossmember. They also did a different style for the 1968-72 GTOs. We never made them. Only the 1965-1967 style. I don't think they fit the 1964. Experts may know why or why not as I can't member too long ago. My clues must have been too good. congrats! denniskirban@yahoo.com moving a long |

Answering above:
On George Hurst I did not know where he lived prior to founding Hurst and serving in the Navy at nearby Willow Grove airbase. Co-founder Bill Campbell is still alive has a nice place maybe 30 minutes from where I live now. denniskirban@yahoo.com |

Short break
I got today the latest "Legend" which is dedicated to the memory of Paul Zazarine. I am sure some of you belong to the GTOAA and will get the latest issue any day. We submitted a piece remembering Paul that was in print. The man had a real passion not only for all muscle cars but a special love for the GTOs. denniskirban@yahoo.com |

Another slice of GTO history from the past
While we concentrate on products that our company has brought to the GTO market place here are some more related memories. Obviousily during the 1980s etc when we sold used parts new parts on a monthly basis as did Chris (Performance Years) back in his early days....we dealt with a nearby Pontiac dealership. Course it no longer exists. Two parts come to mind that we bought. We had a great relationship with this dealership and back in the day they were able to purchase all the remaining stock of the original ralley one trim rings. You know the ones I mean with the funky clips that secured the trim ring at the very edge. This kept the ring from pushing against the protruding slots on the steel wheel. I still remember the last 4 digits of the GM part number think it was 1480... They found just over 200 of them and sat on them for us while we sold them. They also found back in the day 8 or 10 fitted 455 blocks. These where brand new blocks fitted with the crank and pistons if I recall. Going by memory I think we sold them for $650 or $850 each. Those are the two things I remember buying supposedily the last ones in the GM parts supply system. The trim rings without looking it up I think we might have sold them for around $150 to $200 a set. Comments as usual always welcomed. denniskirban@yahoo.com There are of course two projects that really made a splash in the GTO field we were responsible for. Many of you probably know what they are. Not making that a contest as its too easy. |

BINGO...WINNER
Yes the solenoid heat shield which I believe was part of the package in 1967 if the car was equipped with the highly sought after HO manifolds....reason being the manifold sat closer to the solenoid which in turn created more heat which in turn made cranking tougher.... whatever its purpose was we had that part made many years ago and it continues to sell extremely well since the manifolds have been reproduced and since some owners put them on the earlier GTOs....I know I did I had a set on my 64. I think the later ram air manifolds they changed the angle or was a two stud versus a 3 stud set up. Keep in mind hard for me to remember this stuff. You know the routine Ron send me PM denniskirban@yahoo.com prize would be forth coming.... got two more goodies we made over the years will lay out the clues and test the brain trust on this thread. denniskirban@yahoo.com |

Thanz to Mr AMC Guy for posting photo for me. Here is the stainless solenoid heat shield that many of you have probably seen over the years. This part by the way is made by a company where the CEO actually owned a 1965 GTO and a Grand National. A great connection to get parts made when the owner of the company is into cars.
As you might expect its very difficult to get small production runs made in the USA without paying a premium on price. denniskirban@yahoo.com next mini contest coming soon think ti would be number #5 concerning parts we had reproduced.

Heres' one for you Dennis...
I've a friend here in DE that worked at the GM plant on Boxwood Rd in Wilmington. This was back in 2004/2005, not that long ago. Mike was looking around in their storage area and found 2 wooden crates filled with the Opti-clean tri-corner glass bottles with the caps... about 80 to 100 of them. Not knowing what they were, they all went in the trash. A total waste of leftovers from the 60s.
