Default Repro '68 A/C Dashpads

I'm seeing repro '68 dashpads pop up on a few sites (Ames included). Anyone have experience with them? I'm still running an overlay on my car. I'm having a hard time coughing up the $1200 to have JustDashes redo it.

Other ones I've seen (I assume they're the same mfg):

Hey Ken, Al Knoch was working on them a few years ago, maybe that’s where they came from. Unfortunately sold my 68 with a cover on it so I didn’t get to try one.

Got the PY 68 AC Dash offering in 2006...still good as a 3 footer. Exterior upper & outer sides are nice. Pad is hard now but No cracks

Only buggers are random corner definitions around the 3 Vent openings,
Gauge area inside corners of the skin have separated from the core shape,
the lamp mount area is fubar,
the Glovebox door gets caught on the lower pad lip,
the Side vent clip zones take creative cutting to clip to dash metal

So a stocker or repop AC pad would be intetesting to me.

I had a repro in the mid-2000s also. I ran it for a few years but it didn't fit that well. It also didn't have much structure to it. I have to imagine these are new repros.

I've got an original that I am babying like a royal infant ... has one decent hairline crack that has not separated yet. Hopefully I won't destroy it putting it back in.

Al Knoch looks to be making the AC version only

I dropped an email to Ames to see if they can provide some more details, here's what they said:

Quote:
There have been many attempts at reproducing a dash pad for these models with no good result. We are reluctant to remove the part as an “inquire” item from the catalog with hope that a suitable piece will become available. Unfortunately, at this time we are not distributing those on the market for various reasons pertaining to fit and finish.

I emailed Al Knoch, but never got a reply.

A company called Dashes Direct is making a reproduction '68 A/C dash. Looks like it might be decent?

Wow ... available in my color too.

Can't tell great from the pictures but it seems to me the corners are all too square compared to my stock piece.

I was thinking the same thing dataway...looks too vertically upright and square in the A/C vent areas...but the closeups of that area look ok. I'd like to see one installed.
My dashpad is original but at some point was recovered by an old school interior guy. It has sewn seams. I'm ok with it until something better comes along.

I should pull down my original core and see how it compares. Off hand it looks in the ballpark to me. I dropped a line to Dashes Direct to see if they can provide any more details on fitment or construction.

Damn the torpedoes. I ordered one since they have a full refund return policy. I'll keep you all posted.

Of course!

Here's hoping this goes better than the last repro I bought. http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...25#post1890325

I got this one from a vendor on eBay called Top Flight Automotive, it was $400. Not dirt cheap but also not close to Just Dashes territory. Summit carries Dashes Direct products, but I couldn't find the GTO dashes on there. Seems the Dashes Direct mostly focuses on Mustangs.

$400 dollars is reasonable if it fits and looks 'right'. What colors are available?

In the case of a 68 with parchment interior, wasn't the dash pad black?
