car 1968 gto th400.Car slips between 1st and 2nd when in drive but not when starting in 2nd.help

Can you change the filter and fluid and retry?
Could be low on fluid, crack in pickup tube, restrictive filter, etc.

Could be really lame programming, or Vac modulator adjuster needs CW turns.

Sounds like low line pressure. When its in manual low or manual 2nd, the line pressure goes up for high demand driving. When its in drive, the line pressure is lower. Changing the filter like HIS mentioned isnt a bad idea. I would also check the governor.

Ihave chANGED FILTER AND MODULATOR but not have checked governor.thanks maybe time for rebuild?

How about that fluid? Does it look red&clear or is it milky, cloudy, as if the Converter's Stator lost it's pressed-aluminum fit to the sprag and sent fragments of aluminum into the system and clogged the valvebody...just asking.

fluid was red and did not smell burnt.maybe front band is bad?what shift kit do you recemend .trans-go or b+m.thanks
