Default 66 Lemans 4 speed transmission crossmember

Any ideas on how this transmission crossmember is positioned, top, bottom, drivers or passenger side?

In your second picture, what you are looking at is the top of the cross member the part that is closest to the floor board when mounted. It is also positioned correctly in this photo if you were the engine.

That big half circular depression stamped into the crossmember is there to clear the passenger side vacuum modulator on automatic transmission applications, it faces forward.

The crossmember fits both automatic and manual transmission applications.

With help here and online I have it re-installed. Not that bad for a 77 YO working by myself. Thanks for the pictures and comments.

Just to add some info...the hole you see(passenger side when installed) is for the e-brake rod/hanger.

Yours has the tongue ends that a rubber isolator slips over?
IIRC it changed around then from tongue to bolted.

Mine has a tongue that the insulator slips over and the a clamp mounts it to the frame with a bracket.

I dont remember if this was a running change or a model year change to a bolted attachment.

I think Pontiac used the insulators and clam shell mounts into the 70s. My 64 A-body frame has an extra set of holes that fits a bolted on crossmember like Cheby used. Maybe they shared frame parts, among other things?

Ive never had any 67s that used the tongue/isolators
only bolted connection

Cammer 6 Interesting...all of my 67's and 1 66 that I had used the insulators and clamshell attachment to frame.

That is strange, all of my 66 and 67 A-Bodies had the tongue/isolators, It is one of the 1st things I would do was swap out the crossmember with one I got from a Olds 442. I wonder if it was an assembly plant difference. All of my cars were local Pontiac built cars.
