I met Kenny last September when I dropped off a Model A that he had waited
(62) years to own ....



I spent the day & learned about his amazing Life - yesterday a local news station aired a story about part of it ....

Great looking car, but Kenny is a greater man! I was watching a program the other night with actual footage of the attacks on the ships in the Pacific, I cant begin to imagine how horrific things were.

There were more than (1000) attacks on ships during WW2 by Kamikaze Pilots.

My Dad served on the same type of carrier - called a “ baby carrier “ - that was lightly armored and lightly gunned along with being slow and sluggish to maneuver.

When Kenny returned from service - he wanted a Ford Model A Special.

There was a nice one for $500..

But he had only $300 to spend.

Kenny ended up buying this Model A (62) years ago for $300 - he still has it in the garage - it runs and drives.

Moving story,thanks. I was going to the YMCA in Ligonier Pa for years. One day an elderly man needed a ride so I offered. Here he was in the Navy on a destroyer during those kamikaze attacks. He said his ship was hit.He still has back problems from the concussion. One thing he said I remembered ,you did not want to lean against any hard metal surface like a bulkhead, the concussion from the plane would kill you.Thank the creator for so many who believed in freedom.

Great Story. Growing up with a Grandfather from that Generation and a Father from the Vietnam era, I look at the youth today with disappointment. Have a few WW2 vets around me that I try to check on every now and then. Anytime I am out eating and see a WW2 or Vietnam Vet I make a point to buy their lunch or dinner.

My uncle was a pilot during WWII, he also flew in the Berlin Airlift, my grand parents next door neighbor was a navy diver that was in Pearl Harbor during the attack. He was a cool old guy. He loved to garden and was a great friend to my older brother (this was late 60's, early 70's). I remember a few model ships that the guy built and gave to my brother. He was an avid gardener and I remember distinctly how cool I thought his tattoos that he had on his forearms were. For obvious reasons he never talked about his time in the service though.
