When it comes to hubcaps, I have to vote for the 1964 Rally I.

Hubcap
I like this 1966 cap with it's cooling slots and "mag" style. It looks better pictured on the car. I do like the 1965 spinner cap and the simplicity of the 1965 deluxe cap with it's 10 cooling slots.
That cap has an innocent contrasting look for a relatively small car (for it's time) that's equipped with either 335HP or 360HP

favorite wheel covers
Growing up in Detroit, I'll never forget all these awesome cars owned by friends that 'disappeared' only to show up later completely stripped and abandoned. So I have always gravitated toward 'sleepers'. Cars that didn't attract attention until it was time to compete ! So its 'dog dishes' for me with painted steelies.

One more vote for the 64 custom spinner
I wish i could put the custom spinner on a 15" rim to have a better brake option. |

You can if you use late '60's disc brakes and the right 14" rims. All the '67 and newer Firebirds & Tempests cars with factory disc brakes used 14" wheels, except for special order 15" wheels. .

Hubcap
I like the 1965 deluxe hubcap, it's simple design compliment the clean lines for the Tempest series and give an understated contrast for a car with 10:75 - 1 compression and an un-silenced air clearer(s).
Can you tell I'm biased? :--)

For the longest time, I loved the 64 spinner, but after having many cars with that wheel cover, and still run them on 2 of my '64s. I started to like the wheelcovers I don't see very much, and found an nos set for my '66 GTO when I decided I didn't like the Hurst wheels on there any more.
More recently I have become attracted to the '67 spinner. After buying a few sets, I was able to put together 4 decent ones. Chris, who started this thread, had an nos one that gave me the correct color for the inserts. Prior to that I had thought it was argent silver, but its actually the charcoal grey used on the ralley II wheels. As it was applied/dusted on the caps in production, the grey pigment was lost very quickly, and most of them appear silver or light grey. I have had some people comment that it looks like "a modern wheel". |

Back in the day, I think I had every one of these pop off my car. One made a hard turn, hit a curb, bounced up and hit a new Pontiac in the door at a Pontiac dealer. Yep, I kept going.

I went through a similar thought when Rally I's were harder to find then today. About 35 years ago and pre-internet it took some looking, at least in my region for those rims. Once they were reproduced many GTO's were wearing them, again, at least in the southern NY and New Jersey areas.

Wheel Disc Covers
I’ve evolved over the years as so many other car hobbyist.
Back in the day it was toss the factory boring hubcaps in favor of a Rally Wheel or cool Mag Wheel. Things change. When it comes to the Original Steel Wheels with their Wheel Disc Covers that came from the factory on ANY car is what’s important to me. Even if they are an ugly design. It’s how that particular automobile was designed and built. It’s important History. I must confess that some of the day 2 mags added on cars shortly after the new car was purchased are cool History also. A few NOS examples shown below. 65 Deluxe 66 Deluxe 67 Custom Chris.

Those are my two favorites as well. I have a set of each but they’re well used. Good to know about the colour of the spinner if I ever try to restore them. I was considering poverty caps only because I like the 15” x 7” wheels that are on my car now.
