Default "I Dream Of Jeannie" 1969 Firebird back on E-Bay

Ummm...with a little bit of a price increase.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ponti...fCarsQ5fTrucks

I thought this sold for less than $15K last time?

I dont remember if it actually sold in the auction, but yeah... I think it was under $15K.

Guess the seller is looking to flip it for profit... probably figured out there'd be no profit in restoring it.

Price seems just a wee bit optimistic.

So, lets take a survey. If you bought the car and were going to restore it, what version would you pick, the original Carousel red with white interior, or the Barris custom version? I bet it was a sharp car in it's original version, so I would put it back to original.

I think I would too. Barris's taste leaves something to be desired, but considering the uniqueness of the car, I think I would put it back to its green and white paint job.

were there any episodes of jeannie actually sitting in that car???? i dont remember any, but if there were, i think it would make it alot more valueable. or at least the seat she sat in.

I would say its not a bad looking car it really is showing its age if in all it is all original. I would say return it back to the green color with the stripes. It was a sh*tty job of painting it white when you can see all three colors at the same time on the outside of the car. The price is rediculously high just my 2 cents!

I'm not convinced that this car had all of the "inside storage" that is claimed. I live in California, and have seen nicer interiors and paint on cars that were sitting outside for decades. That car looks like it sat for 5-ten years with the top down...outside. No thanks. My '65 GTO was an "outside"car from 1981 to 1997, and still has the original (very nice) interior to this day. Who knows where it was kept from 1965 to 1981....My '67 GTO ragtop sat outside from '83 to '93, and was also a daily driver. It sure didn't fade out, rust, and bake out like this "inside stored" Firebird!! This car looks like an abused and unloved survivor with a neat history that the new owner is trying to capitalize on. We shall see!!

I never doubted it's authenticity the first time it was up for sale.

I think there are two things that sort of hold the value down, though:
1) It would not be cheap or easy to correctly restore to all its Barris glory. And that's the way I'd restore it... there are no shortage of orange '69 Firebirds as it is.
2) The car wasn't really an integral part of the show. I remember watching that show as a kid. I was a Pontiac fan even then, and I remember noticing the many Pontiacs that appeared in the show through the years.... but not this Firebird. I must have missed that 15 seconds of the show-

I posted the "I Dream Of Jeannie" Pontiac clips on YouTube a few years ago. The green Firebird was in 3 scenes (someone chime in if they know of another, perhaps a Pontiac fan out there bought the IDOJ DVD boxed set?). Anyway, there is one scene where the right rear 1/4 panel is in the shot for around 30 seconds. You can see the wing and rear end paint scheme. The other scene it appears in, Roger Healey drives up in a dark setting, top down, and there are 4 people in the car. You only see the Bird from about the beltline up as it crosses the frame. You can see the hood, side scoops, and stripes, but only for a few seconds.

Not exactly used as much as the Batmobile....

Hardly anyone knew of this car a few years ago. In fact I recall I started a thread about here on PY a few years ago, and did a cut-and-paste of the car from my video clip. No one knew anything about it at that time, and neither did I, but way back in the 1990's when I began recording IDOJ for the Pontiacs, I noticed the car, and wondered what it was.

The only thing that makes this car special is the Barris/IDOJ/Custom touches, so it makes little sense to restore it as the original 1969 Carousel Red car.

I had marked all the scenes specifically for the green car.

What I find very interesting, is there are 2 1969 Billing History Cards for this car, plus 2 invoicing sheets.

Oops, there is only one invoicing sheet shown.

I was looking at this youtube video and I paused at about 5:07 or 5:08 its where the side of the green firebird is showing. I don't know if this isjust the camera or the glare but it looks like the door handles are painted the same color as the car. i may be wrong!

Link to thread started about this car back in August 2009. Some nice pics of the car in Barris configuration on page 4, post 73. It would be nice to see this car restored back to the Green Barris configuration.

HFR- I've seen GM internal show cars with 2 and as many as three separate billing history/invoice sheets.

Someone on this site has one (might be JLHarper?).

They were to stop making the billing history cards for '69 and went to the invoice style. So, seeing one is rare and to see two for the same vehicle is very rare.
