'67 326 Convertible
I bought a new wiring loom for my '67 convertible without A/C. Taped in the wiring loom along with the heater motor wire and the oil pressure switch wire is the wire as shown in the picture. It is black, with a rubber shroud and the slots for the push in connectors are of a T shape.
Can someone tell me what this is for? Maybe it is for an accessory I haven't got? Dave From England |

Only thing I see on the wire diagram that is showing single connection on that harness is:
Black orn stripe to heater blower dk blue to oil pressure dk green to temperature black to wiper motor.

Ya I looked at the diagrams I don't don't see anything that should be in that segment of the harness with the heater blower wire and oil temp wire.
Do you have a Automatic or manual?

I could not find anything in the diagram but would it have a automatic kickdown switch or something along those lines that might take it.
Who made the harness? You could call them and check.

Dave,
Does the plastic socket have two places for the female spade connector? One at a right angle to the other? If so, its for a transmission case connector which I think was only used on the TH400 and would've had a wire just like that bundled with the heater motor wire and oil sender wire.

Yes HAMMERED when you look into the rubber shroud it looks like there should be two spade connectors that form the letter T so what you are describing seems to be what Ive got. My transmission is just the run of the mill two speed automatic

Dave,
Then I'd guess you have a harness for a TH400 equipped car, but check your transmission over to make sure it doesn't have a switch.

Thanks for the info HAMMERED.So here comes another dumb question. As automatics in the U.K. are probably one in every five thousand vehicals most of us are not familiar with them so where abouts on the transmission would I look for a switch and can you loosely describe what it wood look like.Sooner or later Im going to be asking about fitting a kick down cable as I have no idea where it goes & neither does an auto mechanic friend of mine

On a TH400, it is located on the US driver's (UK passenger's) side rear just above the pan rail. Below is a picture of the connector (basically a electrical feed through) that I got from this site: http://www.tpocr.com/firebirdST300parts.html
I don't know where it would be on a Powerglide/ST300 and could not find any pictures on the internet, but it should be just above the pan rail on either side.

Dave,
I hunted around a bit more and found the picture below. I believe the switch is for downshift on the ST300 so you should have another switch somewhere on the throttle linkage I believe. On the TH400, the plug had two wires, one for the switch pitch converter and the other for downshift - at least that's what the internet says.
