Default 68-70 Tempest "Pontiac" trunk emblem

from a 68-70 Tempest (have also seen it on 69 Custom S) looking for the "Pontiac" trunk emblem. All the letters are connected by a line or bar on the bottom so this is a one piece emblem. part number 8701432. The one I have has a lot of pits on it. Would take excellent used or NOS.

Default emblem

Not sure which year you need but I bought two of them from ThePartsPlace (PY did not have them) but they did not fit the spacing on the original holes of my two cars. These are both Arlington car (LeMans) but they had the Tempest style trunk emblem. I returned them but after talking to a few people the consensus was that they were for a 70-72?
Assuming you have a 68 I suppose you could weld up the holes and redrill. My cars are painted and didn't want to go that route. Mine are really not too bad. TPP listed them as NOS but they did not come in a GM box. They were really nice though. Attached is a pic of their catalog listing for the part.

reproduced..they list this as 68-9...and they physically interchange, i tried it myself, and took the one off my 70 and it went right on my 68..comparing the 2 next to each other, the have a diff look, but unless you had the 2 together, it would be hard to find..

you want part# 8701432 its the 70 number

but the castin number is...7775303..and both the 68 and 70 i have have the same casting number...everyone knows, casting numbers arent always correct part numbers...so...this one should work..who knows, maybe it was a supply thing or a superceeded piece..dunno...

Mark,
Those are the ones I bought (2 actually) and the hole spacing did not fit/match either of my 68's so I returned them. If you look at the Ebay ad you will see these are from "The Parts Place". They weren't cheap but were beautiful and if I was painting the car I would have welded up the holes and redrilled for the spacing that these units have. My two OEM emblems are actually very nice with just a hint of pitting on one of them. Still wondering what these are actually for although they list them as 68/69.
Dave

i see..my 70 embs all have this casting number..7775303..so i would assume, they made a copy of a 70 emblem...because they have that casting number listed in the auction.

weird..i can pull a 70 emb and it fits right on my 68.....and vice-a-versa...maybe my 68 has the wrong emb, but it doesnt appear the deck lid has been redrilled...maybe the 70 emb is the service and someone put a decklid on my 68 and use whats avail..who knows...

I picked up an emblem at a swap meet for my 70. Got it home and realized the studs were in different locations. If I recall correctly as it's been a few years since I compared them side by side, they look identical or nearly identical, same font, size, and spacing. I'll check the casting number when I get a chance.

Mark, that makes me think I read the part number from the manual. I should look at one emblem that I have to get the casting number. I checked this a couple years ago, but now you got me thinking

I was lucky enough to score this one from a good friend here on the board.

Re-chromed original, just need to get the letters painted. I'm planning on dropping it off at a sign painter here in town to have that done freehand before it goes on the Tempest Custom Vert.

If you don't have one at all Chris I can send you the one I'm taking off, but if you have one I doubt mine is any better.

Boss,
Local chrome shop in CT? Was there any pitting on it? I would go that route as mine are in good condition although there are small pits on one of them. If you don't don't mind would you let me who chromed it and cost?
Thanks,
Dave

thats correct. it's also why I thought nytrainer (Dave) listed the wrong one, since he has lemans converts.

Chris, I have two, but they are of the, better than nothing variety (each has significant flaws), which is why I'm looking for one.
