Default Repair Manual Recomendations?

Good Morning folks!
Working on a 69' Firebird, 350/Automatic/w/Air and in the process of tackling the Heater core. the car hasn't been touched in 30 years but I've so far got a cool collection of mouse skulls and insulation nests.

The car has A/C so there's a lot going on under dash. I don't want to dig into the heater core until I've got some reference factory material in hand. So my question is, can anyone recommend a USEFUL repair manual? I'm seeing links on amazon, etc but I don't want one that's got horrible copies that aren't legible.

Also, if anyone knows a specific vendor they ordered theirs from and is happy with what they received, I'm open to suggestions!

Thanks!

Helminc.com is the usual source for first quality factory service manual reprints ... I think they were the company that printed many of the manuals originally.

Not cheap ($62 for a 69 firebird) but very good reprints ... original quality good. If you plan on keeping the car ... a must have.

Ames sells a reprint of a factory shop manual, although I don't know if it contains HVAC information - for some years that was in a separate manual from the chassis and body information. You could call them and ask. https://secure.amesperf.com/qilan/De...A&web_access=Y

Thanks very much for the leads! It will be nice to hand it off to the young man the car is being gifted too once I get it sound before he returns from deployment.
Not the most desirable model but its in pretty darn good shape for a 71,000 mile car, it just hasnt seen daylight in 25 years that I know of until now.

Take Care,

Heater/AC. automatic transmission, and body were often separate manuals from the service manual. Get a copy of factory stuff if you can. The after market books are usually a joke nd if you don't already know the answer you won't recognize it in an after market manual. Some stuff comes around on ebay but if you are in a hurry and don't find anything at Helm or PY then try Bishko books.

I know HVAC is separate in the A body shop manuals. I actually got mine from ebay. It's just a few bound pages sent in a manilla envelope and only included electrical circuit prints...no nut and bolt stuff.

try Detroit Iron on the 'net. They have OEM manuals on CD which I like because I can print out what I need and not care about getting pages dirty. Matches the paper shop manuals exactly. Bought one for my '67 many years ago, still use it.

Check it out.

The 69 Factory Service Manual, Custom A/C pages, includes the Firebird. For every Tempest/Pontiac drawing, they have one for Firebird.

You can pick up used original manuals on Ebay between $30-50.

OG68, does the '68 FSM have that info? Never noticed it in there but it may be.

Yeah, I missed the 68 year in your question. But to answer your question, there is some Firebird information and drawings in the 68 FSM. Not as detailed as the 69 however.

The 68-69 Diagnosis Manual also has a lot of good information. Organized just like the Service Manual. Includes full-size, Tempest and Firebird.

And l just opened my copy and saw the HVAC sections. I'm not sure if I ever noticed that before. I must have though back when l realized I couldn't find the AC wiring in there.
That diagnostics manual sounds worthwhile.

If you do your own work, its very worthwhile in my opinion. I see originals come up every two or three weeks on Ebay.

Faxon reproduces the 68-69 version but I don't know the quality.

Definitely seems worth it. I'll have to grab a copy.
