Default 98 Trans Am rear emblem

I recently added a 98 Trans Am to my collection. Love it!! However the red bird and lettering in the rear filler panel between the tail lights has been rubbed off. Any way to get this recolored? Is it just paint?

Thanks

You have discovered the notorious faded bird emblem! Most all of these are faded out badly if the car spent any time outside in the elements. I believe that most of it is due to sun-fading.

I have a 99 TA and mine was faded badly before the warranty was out and I called it to the dealer's attention and they replaced it free of charge! They told me that this is a common issue and that GM was authorizing them to replace them if the customer complained.

I think the only thing to do is get a new replacement panel but perhaps someone else knows if the existing ones can be restored in some fashion. Good luck!

Surely a reverse decal can be made and it can be painted/airbrushed back on to look correct..

I never knew they faded? A somewhat popular mod was to remove it. Check phoenix grafix, they have alot of stuff. Here it is, 12E:

Cool thanks!
My 98 only has 50K miles and stays in the garage, but the afternoon sun hits the rear bumper when the door is up. Now its over half faded, but the sun is tough here in Florida.

No problem! Well I'll have to take a closer look at mine. Maybe it's one of those deals where they changed things (like the door panel construction) when they retooled for the LS body style.

Simple overlay is all you need.

No need to replace the entire cover.
