Whats the easiest way to tell the difference between a 8.2 and a 8.5 10 bolt firebird rear

8.5 has ears on the bottom of the casting center section at 5 and 7 when looking at the diff cover.

Quick and easy glance is all it takes.

also look at how the pinion yoke retains the u-joints, 8.5" will have stamped metal straps/bolts holding the u-joints in, the 8.2" will have rounded u-bolts with nuts.
