Default What the what?

So I'm getting the engine bay cleaned up before the 455 goes in my 74 Firebird. I removed the heater core/blower fan cover and found two partial vin numbers stamped there. Only problem is they're one number off. I bought the car from the original owner with 72k documented miles one it, this cover has never been off. And isnt there a vin# somewhere in the rear of the car? What the what is going on here, friday built car?

That probably happens more often than thought.
I have seen the engine partial VIN off.

Is your car Blue with custom blue interior?

Probably for the same reason the PHS official records show an engine serial number exactly 100,000 off the stamped number on my '68's engine.

It was when I got it, light blue custom interior, original owner said he ordered it with a light blue vinyl top too but he removed it in 1988 when he painted the car. And it's an Esprit, I added the formy hood.

The 1972 Lemans I had before the bird had the wrong first digit on the block. https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com....php?p=4500286

What's the odds that you would get all the mis-matched VINs?

Long story short, I have seen 3 instances of such things. A 69 Judge engine and trans matched each other but off by 2 to the body. 70 Judge trans of by 2 from the body but re stamped with the right number right beside it. And a 72 GTO that the frame's last 4 digits were off. The last 4 digits were stamped over with the # 4 on a 45 ° and the correct last 4 digits stamped above them. Always something new to make me scratch my head and say what the ?
