Default 1970 boxes

This is just an observation.
I have found that 1970 15" wheel cars , that have factory power steering, Have a 2.6 box. All others seem to be 3.0 boxes. I have not seen any exceptions to this.
Thoughts? Power steering only. 1970 only.
14" wheel cars, including Formulas, without a specific order of ratio, have been 3.0 boxes.

Do the boxes have different part numbers on them?

Wonder if the Formula steering had anything to do with it?
(smaller diameter)

Interesting. I always thought that Formulas and TA's had the quick ratio box and base and Esprits had the 3 turn unit. so looking in a 5/1/70 MPC to see what was offered as service replacements. There are (were) two part numbers, listed like this:
F/6 - F/8 1 B.C. or 2 B.C. - P.S. - 7807742
F/8 4 B.C. - P.S. - 7810541.

No further description.

Interesting sheet, by engine..
I have found that All Esprit 400 cars have had a 3.0 box.
That said, they all were 14" wheel cars.
Dealer replacement boxes were all 3.0 . This I know from experience.
Dealer installed power steering was also a 3.0 box. Seems like throughout the 70's ( surprisingly, I saw and did a few myself on base model Birds and V II cars) .

Gotta cry 'baloney' on one of the AMA specs. Only 2.5 turns lock to lock. Not buying that one, based on experience. About 2.7 to 2.8 as installed.
We ought to take a survey of all '70 TA owners to see what theirs actually "turns" out to be.

I always thought that on 70 TA's...and W66's got the faster boxes....but have pulled numerous 2 1/2 turn boxes off of 70 Firebirds I've junked.....So I'm guessing....the line workers grabbed whatever was in the bin....kinda like sway bars on 70 TA's..

So far, I have found a 70 TA, and a 70 automatic Formula ( 15 inch car), a 70 4 speed 15 inch car with 2.6 boxes.
I have also seen a 70 Formula 14 inch car with a 3.0, and a few other 70's ( base, esprit and other 14 inch cars with 3.0 boxes.
I was wondering if the F41 included the 2.6 boxes on the 15 inch Formulas.
I am just speculating that the F41 was more than 15 inch tires ( on a Formula)
