Default 79 remote start & locks

What is the best way to add the ability to use a fob to lock/unlock the doors and for remote start? My 79 TA has power locks and an auto trans. I wouldn't want to spend more than a couple grand on this.

I installed remote start and security systems back in college 20 years ago. Locks are not a big deal, you just need to either use 2 relays or a DEI 451m module. Either of these approachhes can take the remote signal from the keyless entry and trigger these old locks. I would strongly recommend forgetting about remote starting any carbureted engine. If you want to try it there are people online that discuss using a linear actuator to pump the throttle to set the choke and high idle, and a lot of interesting approaches that I would recommend against.

In that case any remote start system will do.

I’ve installed a couple of these bone-cheap keyless entry systems sold on Amazon and they work surprisingly well. Can even wire it up to the lights so they flash on lock/unlock. I don’t have any experience with remote start systems, but with those I would be more concerned about strong security/encryption for the signal.

I used this for keyless entry, with Electric Life power locks.

I think Electric Life at Summit Racing has kits also.

If you do add remote start please buy a good system not a cheap one. I've fixed too many cars where the system screwed up. When that happens you can lose a starter, ring gear and/or the wiring.
