i'm impressed that your car can sit that nice in the rear with 53 year old stock springs. you would certainly expect more sag after that amount of time under constant load.

Wheels 15 x 8 and 15 x 3.5 with 235/60 15 and 165R15. Years ago I had air shocks in the rear until one night they broke. Had the rear springs re-arched and used larger shackles to clear the tires. Would like to get a different back space for the rear because they rub occasionally when I have a few people in the car, but I'm on a fixed income so that's probably not going to happen any time soon.

Well I ordered moog factory front springs and Rockwell factory wagon springs for the rear. I watched some YouTube videos and a guy had this setup on a 66 so we will see. They were cheap on rockauto. Also got ac Delco shocks to replace the KYB

Take measurements before and after. Also, do you have "the lean?"

Wow. Your car looks almost identical to a friend's car: Yellow 69 FB 400, with almost an identical choice on wheels. Except for the passenger side on yours doesn't have a nasty rash from taking the first turn-off too fast at the drag strip!

I seriously did a double take.

I honestly don't know which ones they are - I have an easy dozen sets of rear springs here and can swap them in easily to check heights.
I went with Moog 5413's. I really like where it ended up. They were rated a touch stiffer and with a tiny bit more compressed height compared to the stock replacement. I found my way over to the Chevelle forums to get some part numbers, and then compared specs from the Moog product listings.

I removed a wacky pair of originals with some sort of threaded stiffeners between a couple coils. Now it sits level left to right. Springs are not that expensive, and easy to replace. I can't understand why anyone would waste time installing the goofball crap I removed.

I took it for a maiden voyage last week. WAAAAY different ride compared to an F body. This was my first drive behind the wheel of an A body. Feels like I'm driving a cloud, kinda like riding in some Delta 88's back in the day.

No I do not have the lean. My driveway is slanted and it gives me the appearance sometimes and I freaked out when I first saw it and then I realized everything parked there does it.

I've decided to go with that theory too. The "it's the road, not my car" theory

Some day I guess I'll address my lean, and why it seems worse now than before I had the front end (fenders, hood) removed and repainted. But hey, it's not level when it's leaving the starting line either!

Here's our '66 Tempest Custom finally sitting properly. Pretty much right on factory spec. The rear springs are MOOG 5237's from Rock Auto and the fronts are factory spec matching, from Coil Spring Specialties.

We're very happy with the way the car sits and handles. The people from CSS really know what they're doing.

The car came with 205/75/14 tires which we left on the front. On the rear we put 215/75/14 which did not make much of a difference, but I notice it.

Stock rear coil springs for a 65 GTO Convertible. The front springs are stock springs for a 65 GTO with manual transmission and factory air, MOOG 5244. I then cut one coil off of the front springs to lower the front 2". This was necessary because of the lighter components on the engine. The shocks are KYB. The front wheels are 17x7 with 215/55/17 and the back are 17x8 with 245/50/17.
