Default TH350

hi guys
latest project is a 69 bird. was a 6cyl, putting in a mild 400. also was a column shift car, i am installing a floor shift and console.
i separated the trans from old 6 cyl yesterday to take it in for a rebuild. do i have any issues moving this trans from a 6 cyl to a V8? V8 should be around 350-400 HP and will be street driven only.
The trans shop has done good work for me before. my plan is to put in a mild shift kit and get a converter in the 2200-2500 rpm range.
i have learned that i need to keep the steering column linkage intact and connected to shift lever on trans. Do i need a different shift lever to add the cable from the floor shifter?
also i am intending to re-use the original steering column that was column shift. i plan to remove it, take out the shift lever, remove the shift indicator and some how patch over the holes, then paintit all. it is a tilt column and is in good shape.

any one been down this road before?

your already doing the motor why not put in a turbo 350 trans ?

If you have a TH350 and it's good and you're going to use it, then I'd go that route. If you're going to have it rebuilt, then I'd go with the TH400. Craigslist has these parts fairly cheap for BOP transmissions. I looked up BOP turbo 400 in St Louis and found the ad below. The guy wants $190 each and has 5 to choose from. If you're not in a hurry they come up pretty often.

Just buy a floor shift column off eBay. The last one I sold for a 69 was about $100. Nova and Camaro columns are the same.

Here's a tilt (new "universal") off eBay for <$200.

i might go that route but will first try to use what i have. column is still in car. when i get it out i may reconsider.

bear in mind a TH400 requires a different (shorter) driveshaft, yoke and crossmember

i like to re-use as much as i can when restoring a car, even though i may make mods. this helps me keep things simple....i've learned that every change has a ripple effect. my goal is always a solid driver that appears original to non-expert pontiac people.
my trans shop has rebuilt TH350's for me before and they do fine for our style of moderate street driving.
by using original TH350 and original column, both with mods, i am hoping to keep on track with my restoration.
i saw a youtube video where a guy converted a column shift column to a floor shift car for a chevelle. not to bad a process and looked great when completed. planning on trying the same

thanks North, i am planning on sticking with TH350 for simplicity as you point out, even though TH400 is stronger.
