On a whim, found this 72 Monte Carlo with same light green vinyl top.
All original - one owner 64,000 miles.

The color had to be on the books in 1972 for these guys to pick it out.
Could have been a midyear offering,
and we don't have the addendum available to us for it.

Dealers wouldn't have had 1973 color sample catalogs in March 72
Much less displaying them for selections - even if they did.

These old folks picked this color themselves back then.
Probably 3rd party admirers have bamboozled him with the 1973 info and he just runs with it as an extra woohah.

Don't think he is intentionally trying to say he went back to the future.
Just a case of ill guided info decades later from others.

He also said he ordered it at the end of 72 GTO production in 72.
His is late March , but we have WW5's as late as June 72.
Innocent misguided info is what i blame for the quirks.
He ordered it, still owns it with incredible low mileage, and it's a Bad Ass GTO
Job Well Done

This is the PHS and repo window sticker for the 72 WW5 GTO I restored back in 1997.
It was sold new at S & H Pontiac in Harrisburg PA. Red with Black interior.
4 speed. It was a great car. I sold the car in 2006. One of life's regrets. At least I was lucky enough to have owned one.

Appreciate you sharing your former WW5 with us Bob.
Congrats on having owned a Nice One.
Never knowingly came across one anywhere in my area.

Sounds like one that TimeCapsuleMike would be interested in.

Do you have any pictures of the car ?

Looks to be pjferri's WW5

Early Automatic = $1012
Red / Ivory Buckets / White Top / AC
09/29/71 - VIN P113xxx = Inv #108963 = Manassas, VA
09C Body Build Date
*MCACN Ram Air Display Participant - November 2019
$5688

That puts us at 29 legit documented cars , out of 290 [ = 10% ]

In the past 4 years we have added 9 more documented WW5 cars ,
plus 4 more tentative WW5's that are most likely legit.

Here is a WW5 car that was at the MCACN show in Chicago this weekend. I didn't take any pictures at the show, maybe someone got a pic of the PHS, or this one is on the list already.

Thanks for the picture
That is pjferri's car
Ransom posted the Invoice in post #264 .

Great looking machine !
I'd say they made a really good choice swapping the body side moldings off for the Stripes too.

WW5 was well represented.
Congrats to pjferri and thanks for showing the car at the event.

Attached a picture of the WW5 GTO I restored back in 1997. It looks like the new owner added the rear spoiler.

Photographer outdid himself on that shot.
Everything about it looks balanced too. The red centers catching the paint, the wheel opening moldings accenting with the trim rings and rockers just right.
Spoiler for extra glory.
It looks Great

Thanks for contributing Bob

Giving this 72 GTO 455-HO an honorable mention.
It has every single WW5 option, but they ordered them all separately.
So in one way it is a WW5, and one way it isn't.

I ran the option cost numbers , and it actually came out to be cheaper individually - at the time this car was built / as built.
very unusual

Total for all the required options = $991.92
Cost for early WW5 Automatic = $1012.13
An extremely savvy buyer saved $20.21 on this order.
About $200+ in today money

Custom Carpets are covered under Lemans Hdtp base group
Drip Rail moldings would be covered within Vinyl Top option, if not already inclusive with Lemans or GTO
- unless someone can come up with something i am overlooking ?

Possibly the only thing they lacked otherwise was the H/O decal on Trunklid

Car is Silver with Black Vinyl Top and Black Buckets
Automatic with 15" Honeycombs
All Original #'s Drivetrain
It is For Sale in the classified section here on PY
https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...d.php?t=824245

He has done more work and gathered more parts and more info on the car from the time it was originally listed.
Selling price is now $19,500

A whole lotta ink on that Invoice !

Bump in the WW5 Department

The Black / Saddle 4speed WW5 is For Sale
Frame Off Restored
located in Utah

It is the only Black , and the only Special Order Paint WW5 known.
Black was not a standard color for 72 GTO

455-HO with RamAir / M22 / 12 Bolt Posi / 15" Rally 2
WW5 Full Performance Option Package

I don't remember if WW5 production (290) is broken down into 4spd and Auto.
On our running list of known cars - its close to half and half - iirc

Quote:
Was asking $54,900, but would take $50,000 as the car rarely get's out of storage now. Nearly $100K in the restoration and the car looks and drives fantastic. Please call with any questions or for details. (801) 699-6880.
Thanks,
Tim

BLACK with Saddle Interior - 4 Speed

Very Very Few special order Black Cars in 1972, at all.
Its practically the cream of the WW5 crop , fellows.
Over 90k in the car with a full frame-off resto
All matching # drivetrain as well.

When my step father purchased the car in 1974 it had been painted yellow. I tracked the car down through several owners and bought it back, had it beautifully restored to stock condition and decided to go with the yellow he had known (monarch yellow). I struggled with the decision to not go with the ordered, black color, but the restoration was with him in mind.

Exclamation

There's a SOP Black / Black WW5 post car (1 of 7 post WW5s) owned (or was owned) by Terry Pope in PA. M40 car, nicely optioned.

You do realize that all black 1972 T41 cars were assembled with white enduras!

CRAZY appraisal attached.

That one isn't in our listing. For some reason.
Maybe lack of documentation , idunno
Do remember seeing that appraisal before and reading some commentary about it though, on here somewhere at some time.
Maybe the WW5 association slipped through the cracks, we don't have a Post Car on the list at all.

Thanks for the update Lloyd

White may have been a default.
But have a Buildsheet for a SOP "Carolina Blue" 72 GTO, that instructs to use an Adriatic Blue Endura
So there may have been potential for some choice towards that ... but Blue isn't Black , so just putting the example out there.

I show it under the $1012 Early Automatics section, maybe in another thread?
