I think we made our first 3 second 1/8 mile run in the 2014 season. I would have to go back and look at some time slips. Of course, NOT a door car and on a prepared race surface, but at 2600 lbs. We never seem to pay much attention to 1/8 mile stuff, although it's certainly popular now. Our best 1/8 mile is a 3.81xx. Chief does make tremendous reliable power IMO. Any car that can run his numbers and do it multiple times in a day is very impressive to me. The Pontiac world is proud of his accomplishments I hope.

Watching No Prep on tv, Justin did a damn good job winning the race in Denver! He had no gimmes, he earned it he did say something curious though he said he dropped 200 lbs off his car to run in the no prep races and be competitive.

Seems logical to me. If I had 200 pounds I could pull from my car and it is still legal. Why would I run it 200 pounds heavier?

Didn’t he say his car weighed 2,8 something when he ran his 3.99 at Denver? I can’t believe his car could weigh 3,000 at anytime. Just curious. Maybe my numbers are messed up?

GTO George
GTO George,
He ran at an organization whose rules caused him to have to weight 2820. My guess would be that he added some blast to the car to make that weight.

I enjoyed watching No Prep Kings last night. A couple of days before the race, there were a lot of the heavy hitters practicing in Pueblo Colorado to include Chief, Lutz, Murillo, Martin, Kelly, Larson and a few others. On that night, Ryan Martin set the track 1/8th mile record taking it from Murillo who set it there a couple of weeks prior (I saw that one too). This was a private track rental on a Wednesday night. I had my boys so we had to leave around 10PM since they had school the next day. A good time indeed.

Did I hear what Chief said correctly? He said he was using a .030 over 455 block? I'm guessing that was a tease...right?

188.91 mph, up here in the clouds. I think it's a 488 so a 4.5 stroke crank?

Hope this video posts of Ryan Martin setting the record.

At one point it was 4.25 x 4.25. I highly doubt he is using a 4.5 stroke crank.

4.275 with a 4.25 crank will get you 488ci. Or 4.41 with a 4" crank will get you about the same. Has that solid IA2.
He keeps calling it his little engine. Myself I wish the show would stop talking about the racers/people/stories and more about the equipment/brands ect.
But that is what the reality shows do these days. But if they brought out his ancient, discontinued rod chucker of a engine and his uphill battle that would a lot to the story. He has no business going against the 481Xs of the world, but he does. Pontiac Power !

Chief is a street racer. If his lips are moving regarding his car, set up or performance he is likely lying.

It's just too much for the laymen. I'm sure Discovery has actual numbers, but us enthusiasts are but a tiny fraction of the total audience. We'd love to see the tech side, but the vast majority just glaze over when you start introducing heavy tech.

it's probably why he calls his engine a small block. It's just far easier than trying to explain to people that there's only a single block architecture for Pontiac and that although he runs an aftermarket block, it's still closer to the original engine than the guys running a 481x or hybrid chevy/hemi deals etc. That's how you get people to turn the channel.

Where did anyone hear 488 ci?

I heard 482 ci sometime ago. A 4.15" (455) + 0.03" bore and a 4.39" stroke will do that.

FWIW, I sold him a new 4.25" billet crank several years back--don't know if he used it or is still using it.

I spoke to him in Colorado the weekend he won. He said it is 482 cubic inches. They didn't want to say anything about the head flow #s or modifications when I asked. And they didnt say a word about different heads.
They said they had plenty to work on with the car before needing to change anything significant In the motor or turbos. Seems the transmission and lock up stuff was the talking they where doing with other racers. Fireball was testing new rosler stuff if I remember right.
He was very humble.
Went and talked to Robin too and asked if he was ever going to run a Pontiac behind those turbos and he just smiled.
I have no idea what that means .....

Chiefs car as we know out ran everyone that weekend.
All the 481x guys included. All of em. Lutz and Larson had trouble even spooling the air was so bad.
What chief did here at altitude was impressive. I race here and I can tell you first hand Bandamier is a bitch. I cannot even fathom the idea of running turbo at this altitude with the handicap of Pontiac and racing heads up. Honest guys this was a special win for Pontiac.
We all make fun of them(street outlaws) here at the track when we are racing but there is more enthusiasm for our Pontiacs than ever before and I was proud as heck to tell him and everyone mine is powered by Pontiac and he was too.
I can tell you this too. He would have beaten Robin 8 of ten times that weekend. He was noticable faster and more consistent.
The black gto was just that much better. Lizzy and fireball were the only cars that turned in better mph for the weekend. Times were not flashed or announced but they would announce speed sometimes. Fireball had top speed.
