Neat technology combo. Suppose that shows great safety factor for a 9500 rpm engine.

Interesting. Watched on web Honda F1 engine at 20k. I wonder about the design and valve train.

F1 uses nitrogen pressurized valves rather than springs, they are not rpm limited.

Help me out here. If peak torque is at 8200 rpm and peak HP is at 9300 rpm, why the need to spin it to 11,200+ rpm?

It was an experiment on whether or not it could even be done.

He said it lacked head flow and what not before the test. The fact that it survived could be attributed to being less than optimized, but I applaud the effort.

Thank you Brian, there is/was no reason other than to create some drama for unknown reasons. Why it is surprising that a properly built LS engine can rev to 11,000 RPM's is no miracle in the racing world. Hell our totally outdated, 1955 technology Pontiac engine has run to 111,300 RPM's without coming apart. That's with an 81 LB. crankshaft spinning around in the open air with 40 lbs. of boost on top and nitromethane for fuel. BBC based Pro Stock engines run that kind of RPM as do old school SBC's running Competition Eliminator every week at an NHRA event. I guess it's special because it's an LS engine? They have a wonderful 6 bolt bottom end that should make this pretty easy to accomplish unless their inherent weak oiling system goes into cavitation. Well chosen parts, good valve springs and connecting rods are the main components needed.

Holy crap, not 111,300 RPM's!! Not even the mighty LS engine can do that. I meant 11,300 RPM's. Sorry about the typo. Here is a link to an old school SBC at 12,000 RPM's according to the poster. It's a beautiful sound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xv251lDtGu0

Holy sh*t, Mike...you guys are turning 11K rpm with the Boss Bird on the big end? I never would've guessed that. I've seen video's of SBC's turning 10K rpm and even saw a guy at a track once years ago with a '52 Studebaker set up like a gasser with a 327 Chevy in it with iron heads no less turning 10K rpm and dipping into the 10's. I imagine if a swiss watch made high rpm noise, that thing would've been it, it sounded sweet.

Back in the old days(the '70's), I remember hearing the 283 sbc engines screaming those high rpms, in the Modified Production class cars.

The only Pontiac I ever heard that sounded anywhere close to that was the Jack Mullins 389 SS wagon. He sometimes popped the clutch at 8200 rpm.

Several Pontiac Stockers rev to 8000, nowadays.

TJ took this pic, at a points race, in Jackson MS, in 1975. Jack won 2 national events that year, including the US Nats.

The 500 ci N/A Pro Stock engines turned some 11.5k to 12k. NHRA a couple of years ago to help them save cost put a REV Limiter on them set @ only 10.5k

No Brian, that was one run when we had a transmission issue that would not allow the 1-2 shift. So it was unintentional Normal proper fast run is 9600-9800 RPM and 36 lbs. of boost . I was just trying to make a point, not very well, I may add.
