Is your 428 drilled for 4 bolt mains, but with 2 bolt caps? All of mine have been. This should narrow it down considerably for him if he can at least feel the extra bolt holes on the main saddles if not see them.

I have a 69 YH code 428 2 bolt main block that is NOT drilled for 4 bolt mains. I have saw many times were people are under the impression they were all drilled for 4 bolt mains, I confirm that is not the case!

No impression meant. I've had 3 of them, all drilled. I meant this to be something for the OP to look for to help him, not intended to be gospel.

389 block, no transfer lug. Same for the 400.

421 block transfer lug.

The 428 has it as well as 326, 350 and 455 blocks. That ought to muddy the waters a bit.

326 showing the transfer lug.

Wanna trade? I really wish this 2-bolt 69 YH 428 wasn't drilled for 4-bolts, it would be my future race engine and get splayed caps.

A 421 would have 4-bolt mains and 2-core plugs per side.
Agree with this. I had one, and it had the 46 heads and the two bolt caps. Was drilled for 4 bolt caps, but not equipped with them. A great engine for a build, IMO.

I’ve got a set of those 46 heads from a 69 if you need them. Came off a 428. Previous owner included them in the sale of his car is the reason I have them. He had built the 428 by putting stamped 64 H.O. heads on it, forged pistons, etc. and that car could fly!

So, for the OP, how did you turn out on this block?

I'm picking up the block, heads, intake, long branch headers and a 4 speed trans today. I'll let you know exactly what it is once I get it back to my garage.
