Now I'm really confused. Is the car sold or not? If not, how about a few pictures and a price.

Mazda of Bedford will have the car for sale, soon, at I Imagine, 37k or so.

There's something wrong with the paint on the nose. It does not match the fenders, and it's not the lighting. Look at both sides. I say the nose was replaced and the wrong paint used.

They didn't match all that well when new. Very similar to the way the 78 solar gold cars matched. Or should I say didn't match... both my 78 & 79 are a lighter than the body color in most lighting conditions.

Remember this picture a member posted a while back? New 79s' coming off the trailer at the dealer.

By the way, I would love to see hi resolution under hood, & under chassis picts. Can't get enough of those on low mile cars..... So hard to duplicate originality in those areas.

There is no way that car didn't scrub it's nose when it came off that trailer - DAMN!

I'll add to the consensus, they didn't match when new - rubber bumpers came from the supplier already finished in the final color.

When I first saw that picture & noticed the makeshift ramp height adjusters & I thought wow!
Guessing that was an old carrier back in 79. Was looking at some picts of my 79 (car is stored away from my home) & the bumper looks slightly darker. But I know in the sun its slightly lighter. Some sort of metallic shift compared to the body paint.

I'll post a picture of my 78 that was taken by a previous owner back in 1982. The gold was waaaay lighter than the car in that photo. Its been repainted since then however

My other 78 still has the original paint & its bumper is lighter, but not nearly as bad as my other one appeared to be in the picture.

I know we are talking about the 79's, but its the same deal to some degree. I will say the cover looks very light in the pictures above, maybe on the edge of the lightest ones I have seen. But it could be the camera & lighting I suppose too.

Did the dealer have to put on all the ground effects of these cars back then?

Notice the car coming off the trailer doesn't have a nose or front wheel spoilers yet installed. Interesting.

Jinx!

I think that was talked about from the thread I stole that picture from, but I don;t recall the consensus. If those haulers were standard for the era, I am surprised they came with much of anything installed.

Kind of looks like my car has the exact same paint contrast as the one coming off the trailer. Never noticed it in person to be severe. Car is still in my hands, as cousins car dealership will get it when it comes out of storage. 32k will buy it now, 36 or so when Mazda of Bedford gets it.

For the ones I saw back then the paint matched. My black Formula's nose and fender paint match too. Yeah, the dealers installed the nose and front wheel spoilers. They were in the trunk and/or the back seat when delivered.

That looks like one of Caissons trucks. Looks like the dummy forgot or didn't use the set of ramps with the legs and then those ramps he's using hooked to the first set like he was supposed to. We at Anchor Mtr Frt had the same type trailers. If you didn't use all the ramps like you were supposed to, you damage the rear or front of a car. Damage enough cars and you'd lose your job.

When we got new trucks and trailers that carried 8 cars instead of 7, I got 4 pairs of the jump ramps given to me by the shop manager. They went from the ramp over the cab to the top front deck on the trailer. Those babies cost 700 bucks a piece new. I still have all 4 of them today.

I could have had a 400 4 speed 10th Anniversary TA for 10 grand where I bought my 79 Formula. The dealer couldn't sell it and it sat in his garage for over a year. And he didn't mark up the price like may dealers did. Some guy from Texas finally bought and had it shipped to him.

Well I decided to keep the car , and redo it. Putting on a complete repaint, after my body man. showed concern about matching up the old and new paint. Redid the wheels, came out like new, and added new tires. 13k later, it should be a really nice car. I was a little concerned about the total car investment being in the 40's, but I just cant see giving it away at this point. The lower mileage,, 4 speed, and hopefully growing value influenced me to hang on to it. O yea, bought the total decal kit, and intend to install it along with the door decals. I was a little concerned about redoing 95 percent original paint, but my painter {Blue Ribbon Autobody} assured me that this was the best way to go.

Don't feel bad about redoing areas that are not mint, don't need any more of that Survivor rubbish.

Its kind of funny how people all talk about Survivor style cars being so cool, flaws and all. These cars are 40 or so years old now, and unless your willing to shell out big bucks, I believe most people prefer restored.

Properly restored, yes. With some of the hack jobs I've seen, I'd prefer survivors, with all of their flaws.

I was into survivors when survivors weren't cool. That said, crazy low mile 10ths are easy to find so I agree here, a nice cosmetic facelift is a good idea. It won't help value too much but it certainly won't hurt value.
