Default 'Favorites' Bar

Howdy:
First off I'm not the best on a computer. I had been saving numerous PY Forum tech posts to my favorite bar. Since the merger I am not able to access these posts. When I try I am directed to Ames website. Hopefully someone can help me to access this outstanding info.
Thanks,
Alan

Give an example of a couple of the links you saved. I believe you have saved URL's that have the old performanceyears.com in them. If you replace the occurrence of performanceyears.com with maxperformanceinc.com I think you'll get the posts you want.

old
http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/forums/topic xxxxx
new
http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/forums/topic xxxxx

I asked my wife (retired network admin/webmaster) to look at the problem, and she sees a DNS issue. She as written up the technical portion of this post.

My older links that are very valuable to me have the forums.performanceyears.com/forms/xxx show up when the mouse hovers over the shortcut, but once the link is clicked it is directed to http://www.amesperf.com/html/xxx. Replacing the domain name with maxperformanceinc.com does not fix the broken url. More recent bookmarks have IP address in the URL and they do work.

Here is an example of one of the broken links. This is the saved URL that worked prior to the changeover (what we see when we hover over the bookmark):
[url]http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=433662&page=31

and this is where it redirects once it is clicked: http://www.amesperf.com/html/PY_Lett...d.php?t=758363

If the redirect to amesperf.com was not there then I'd be able to change the domain name to maxperformanceinc.com, but changing it in the redirected address just creates another bad link.

It would be so tremendously helpful if a DNS redirect was created to point to the new domain name. In order for me to access the original url, each bookmark has to be saved as a shortcut, then the properties has to be viewed in order to copy the original url. This is a tremendous amount of work that could be remedied via DNS. Is this possible?

I have many years of invaluable information saved in these bookmarks that I currently need for my restoration. Any assistance would greatly be appreciated.

TIA,
Alan

we're looking into this and maybe some type of mass 'find and replace' that will eliminate the bad links.

Stay tuned.

Can't a cname or alias DNS record be added to the DNS server? It would automatically redirect all saved favorites to the correct address.
