Default Trans cooler

High performance street car and stall converter 3.73 gear

how big and type of transmission cooler do you use? wanting to route one with nice clean AN fittings not rubber hose and band clamps.

how large a cooler do you use?

I have a B&M stacked plate with AN fittings.

My vote would also be the stacked plate design and avoid a typical tube & fin design.
Earl's Temp-a-Cure oil coolers are one of the better ones out there. As mentioned so does B&M.


Find somewhere to bolt it to as the through the radiator zip ties will eventually rub pinholes in the radiator tubes.

Agreed that a proper trans cooler is a good thing, but is there such thing as overkill? Wouldn't too large of a cooler not be preferred due to the time it takes to get a little heat in the trans?

I run tranny lines through an external basic tube/fin cooler bolted to a bracket in front of radiator, then run the line through the cooler on radiator tank. It seems I am able to get my trans temp up a little quicker for that first time trial run, then the cooler in radiator keeps tranny fluid a consistent ~180 deg same as coolant temp. Even after runnung deep in eliminations my trans temp has never exceeded 200 deg.

Not suggesting this is the preferred way, but so far working well for me.

I've done the same as leeklm. Ran that way on a 350 turbo for at least 30 years on same car no issues.

I like to run through the aux cooler first then through the radiator, if the aux makes it to cold the rad will warm it up and if the aux is to hot the rad will cool the fluid more

and if the fluid is still to hot after the aux and rad cooling then you have bigger problems about to happen like total engine compartment meltdown
