To do aluminum siding you would have to sheath the outside walls. which will add costs . My stud spacing is 4' on center . If you go with a steel kit open span . There is just beams on the end and 1 in the middle 20' span . I am going to post picture of the progress........ Wheres the beermiester?dont see it

I use two garages, built them so the doors face each other, about 50 feet between them, then I can push my rotisserie with the body on it back and forth, between the garages.

There both 50' feet long, one is 30' x 50', and the other is 24' x 24' with a 26' x 30' addition on it.

When I was 40 years old I didn't have a garage, renting, and an old beater car, working as a laborer, laying on my back in the snow with -20 degrees temperature trying to get it running, so I could get to work.

So I've been there, but in the later years of my life I wanted some nice garages for my hobby working on cars, thought I needed to explain this.

I'm 65 years old and in good health, and I love these garages, I could tip over today, but right now I'm really enjoying them.

But the size of the garage doesn't matter, its the guy thats working inside it, the best mechanic I have ever known, worked out of 1 and 1/2 stall garage for most of his life.

I keep a big bead blaster in the one on the left and my body jig, I can take floor jacks and move the jig back and forth without dissasembling it.

I don't have a lift and when I built it a couple of friends said build it higher for a lift. I told them when it comes time that I can't crawl under a car, and I need a lift, then I'll hang up the strap.

Any of you youngsters know where that saying came from, hang up the strap.

I thinks its good for an old guy to get under these cars and stretch that old body out, beats walking around a mall. I get lots of leg work going from one end of these to the other.

And just because you see a couple of big garages, doesn't mean there paid for.

This thread was for garage pictures, I'm sorry for all the extra, but I thought some explaining was in order.

Another thing about lifts, it takes a higher ceiling, and I figured with the cost of heat and ac, that I would stay on the low side, I'm glad I did, only one is heated and it doesn't take much.

I was thinking, when a guy gets home from work, maybe he only has a couple of hours in the evening to work on his hobby, would it be worth heating up a big building, so thats my reasoning.

If cash wasn't a problem, a lift would be nice.

Hey Rub......like you I turned 65 last year. Was a long time coming but I finally got a 3 bay (26'X48') with 10' celings..complete with heat & AC...
I posted pics in a earlier post..
I must admit though the first thing I installed was a 2-post lift...life is good.
I'm in reasonably good health but back sux....had 6th back surgery last November.. The secret is enjoying what ya got ...seems to me that's someone's signiture on here ...
I agree though that it's not the quality of the garage that matters...it's the man inside turning the wrenches...
I love it when people ask me "Do YOU drive that car ??" Is 65 old or something ??

HIOSILVER : here's some outside pics. The building is only 22' X 22' due to a tight setback. If I ever come to terms with the owner of the lot next to me, I'll put up a 30' X 50' pb but for now this works.

I'll be glad to tell you IF I can figure it out. Problem is, it was 7-8 yrs. ago and I did/helped do as much myself as I could. Square foot costs are a lot higher now but i'll check what records I have. My wife is pretty good about saving reciepts. Mark O.

Hey rub and 60 man,
You guys make my day!
We may not live to see the end of this project, but who really cares. My son says, "Did you label everything?" I say,"That's your problem".
Like you guys, I built what I envisioned as MY ultimate SHOP. See attached pics. Take em off and put em upstairs for when it's time to retrieve and replace.

PS "Shops are inherent with a residual magnetism, regardless of what they are built of. They will attract and store all sorts of parts & pieces!
Regardless of how hard you try to resist."

Our garage is 30 x 40 with two 10' overhead doors. This is the only picture that I have right now; not too great, but better than nothing!

Thanks Darin. It's certainly not the biggest one on here but it works. I think shop size is like goin' fast - the more you get, the more you want.

Thats true............mine is 34' X 40'. Seems to get smaller every week. Its never enough room no matter how big you build it. I may add 10' onto the back of mine in the next couple of years.
I laid down the law though when we bought this place. Told the wife that nothing is stored in the shop unless its car/hobby related. If anything shows up in there that doesnt belong it gets taken back to the house by me......then I say "I think you may have misplaced this so I brought it back to the house for you". Its only happened once in the past 2 years

Old Goat, my friend bought a new 67 gto back then also, 400 4speed ram air 433 gears, it would get with the program.

Saw him ten years ago, and we still talk about that car.

Rub: Thanks for compliment on 60. I love the 61's to but I felt the 60's were being ignored in racing. I put Arapaho back on the track. It was/is a original race car campainged by Gene Calhoun back in the 60's.....and I used to wrench on it !! I get good memories every time I get in it...

Old Goat: Cool looking shop...complete with Guard Kitty..and Dish TV.
Lets see, I see AC to. I don't like to take inside pics of mine..it's sorta packed..
My "catch all bay" has my Kuboto tractor,John Deere mower,Honda ATC, and all non auto related items..

Man....a garage is a garage but NEVER big enough...
I don't know how much it cost to build this garage but I bought the property 7 years ago.....$112,500.00....probaly doubled that with renovations.
But I love my little shack with a big shop...
