Formulafr, I like that silver, looks CLEAN. Nice car. Someday when my car is done I will have to post some pictures. I guess if I figure out how to I could post a few in progress shots.

I just bought a 74 formula 400, factory ram air, four speed, Denver gold with standard black interior, formula wheel, am/8-track, console, 3.42's, rally dash, honeycombs, numbers matching, 80,000 miles, decent driver, but I will be doing some projects, shocks, bushings, exhaust, etc. I will post some pics when I get some things fixed. Cheers, Pete.

Nice to hear what everybody is running. I ordered waited 5 mos. for mine.74 TA SD455.With minimum options.Only requirements for SD455.Admiralty Blue,Blue custom interior,AM/FM,8track tape.Thats all.Been to Gettsyburg POCI,Charleston WV.,and Norwalk approx 8 timeswith it.All original(except hoses, belts, tires, touch up on flares)Engine has gotten decent mileage approx 15/16 on trips with my foot out of it.The exhaust is noisy and original(so far). I have all paper work.Usually the car doesn't score well because it is original .When shows advertize survivor I will particpate.Times are 14.0/14.20 at 98/100. Engine has never been apart probably should blueprint it. I ahve another 70body looks like a 73 with a SD stock blueprint,3636lbs,headders,3200converter,4.10,9" tires, stock lift 323 cam.12.17/ 110.

this will be my daily driver for the next 3 years of law school, as soon as i get around to her

barn fresh, there for at least 15 years

rally gauges, red buckets, 4 sp, honeycombs, original formula 400 with orig engine (minus carb, soon to have one)

they made some that are 'real' ram air?
my scoops in front are blocked, but i noticed vents under the bottom of the hood that seemed live

and i agree - the silver looks great on these cars
probably what i'll have to go

also, i noticed on the data plate a code 'W6' or something
That the handling package?

Not after '72. Someone may have opened them up. The functional scoops were controlled by solenoids to open under hard acceleration.

Actually, on the Formulas it may have been manually operated by a cable/knob setup...at any rate, they were all gone by '73 with possible exception of the '74 GTO with the shaker hood. I just can't remember all these things .
I do believe that there may be aftermarket setups available for your car. Might check those out when you get to that point.
Nice project you have there.

I seen in a book somewhere there were 553 or something like that, ram air formula's in 1973, they were the left over parts that they put on the first few out the door to get rid of the parts, now that is what I have read in a book, I have one of them BUT I have not done a PHS on the car yet, I think I will now to be sure, BUt it is a 400 4sp car with the raim air. see pic

nice - neat

and i like the pictures - i like pictures of project cars more than showcars - a little more character in them, and they're more interesting

i've got a dual snorkle air cleaner (no idea from what) that i'm going to hook into the hood on my car for ram air, shouldn't be too hard

Actually, 1974 was the last year that the real ram air system was available on the formula 400 and a small number of formula 455's. The sales code/UPC was 514/WU3 in 1974. The system is manual and has no valve's, etc. Danpaul, you can make your system fuctional by removing the hood intake plugs, and cutting outlet holes in the hood, I would suggest finding someone with an factory ram air hood and measureing the holes and positioning before doing any cutting, remember, measure twice, cut once. You will need rubber hoses that connect to the bottom of the hood via steel retaining rings held in place by screws. These rubber hoses compress and line up with the holes on the dual snorkel air cleaner housing.I hope this info helps.

Surveyor, Thanks for the info. When you say the system is manuel, does this mean that the blockouts need to be operable? I thought the blockouts were open and there were screens recessed inside. My hood is origional, and there are holes located just above where the air cleaner goes. Am I missing something else? There is a good car show in Moab this weekend. I hope there will be some birds there for me to take lots of pictures of.
