I just finished reading the article Rocky. Fantastic job. That and the fact that Jay's car is a shining example of the potential of the 'base' 455 T/A makes me proud to own my Admiralty blue redneck mobile.
Again, fantastic job!
Oh...and Jay...congratulations and thank you!

You guys have inspired me to do some work on my T/A instead of just driving it. I was never all that happy with the aligment of the front valance, so I removed it today and shimmed the front bumper - fit is much better now. I've also ordered a trunk mat and decal to finish the trunk. Some updated pics:

Default My 76 survivor

I bought this car new when I worked at Pontiac Product Engineering. Here it is 30 years later at a recent employee car show at GM Proving Ground, Milford, MI.

The sun has been harsh on the decals, and air deflectors, but the body paint still looks decent.

She's got 96K miles with the original factory clutch still working fine!

Look a lot like the old Appliance wheels that Western Auto used to sell. I like 'em.

My old '75 T/A, bought it from a good friend in '81. Sold it in '90.

Had three different powertrains while I owned it.
1) Original short block, but w/ '70 #13 heads, 068 cam and a '71 HO intake. TH400 with a 3.42 gear. Mid 14's in the 1/4.
2) Complete '71 455HO engine, stock heads, cam and intake. Still a TH400 and 3.42 gear. Mid 13's.
3) SD455 engine, 10.5:1, ported heads, UD 288/296 flat solid, TH400 and a 4.10 gear. 11.90's @ 112.

These pics were shot at one of our Gulf Coast Trans Am Club drags, prolly in the mid eighties. The strip is long gone, replaced by apartments and commercial developments. It used to be the Houston International Dragway.

Here are a few pictures of my car along side the ride of 1qikta. (HPP Cover Car). These were taken by Jay at Norwalk this year.

For those that have never been, this is, in my opinion, the BEST Pontiac show going.

Larry, not sure if you were asking about the wheels on my TA. If so, they are 3- piece Epsilon 16" wheels. 10" in back, 8.5" up front.

Lots of nice Firebirds here!

Llolyd:

Which one do you think is faster?

Jay runs 13.20's on his bias plys which is pretty strong. I guess I'm gonna have to get it to the track next summer and end all the speculation. I hope I'm not disappointed. Not sure how I'm going to hook it up though!

Well . . . by the looks of the sparse engine specs in your sig, you've prolly got Jay covered in the high RPM power department.

However, Jay's near 109 MPH damn sure tells the tale, he's making some SERIOUS power - running those stock "log" exhaust manifolds!

Plus - you're gonna need to practice leaving with that ST-10 on street hides, and be prepared to bang off some awesome shifts to stand a chance.

Should be a VERY interesting matchup.
