Nice car but with the issues it has I dont know how good of an idea it would be to dump a bunch of money into a resto. Maybe thats why he wants in the 20's for it.

I honestly don't know what to think about the VIN stamp on the block. I have never seen anything like that!

I agree! It looks like somebody went at it with a pick axe! This makes it even more suspicious to me! Can anybody read the MUN above the W8 on the block. I'd like to see where it falls relative to other known SD cars.

looks like 522298 or maybe 522293 but the last 2 digits are not very clear at all and there is a chance the first digit could be a 6 instead of a 5. Other than that I'm 100% certain

I've made my mind up, it's definitely NOT the OE block.

Hopefully it's at least a gennie 132 casting . . .

Wallace Racing's great EUN listing has a Y8 car built 7D with an EUN of 520198...Block should be 490132.

What's the block date code?
(L203 - C294)

Also have a pic of the cowl tag?

I was thinking sawed-off shot gun. There are fragments of numbers everywhere.

Any possibilty that the "block stamper" noticed that the VIN on the car did not exactly match the VIN on the paperwork and he decided to just further the confusion?

Default Yellow Formula SD 455 Firebird 1974

A few answers to questions, the PHS shows a LS2 option on this yellow 74SD, Vin shown on reggies/title 2U87X4N172391. It was ordered with an LS2 option, so I would assume it is part of the official production figures making it one of 57 SD Formula's made. The block code below the RH valve cover is W8, block has 132 cast into it.
According to the paperwork the car was built on 08-23-74.

Could this be the last SD ever made ??

Paperwork doesn't tell you when it was made - only when it was shipped. I have a 72 GTO that has a ship date on it's PHS of September of 72, but the cowl tag on the car shows December of 71.

Thank you for being so forthcoming and open with the information on this car - we tend to like puzzles here.

Default Yellow Formula SD 455 Firebird 1974

Picture of cowl tag is posted and visible, how do you find out the built date as per the cowl tag ? The picture of the block where there is W8 and number untop is also posted and visible.
What is the MUN abbreviation stand for ?

In ref to the serial number on the lower part of the block, what could have happened, is this from factory ? If it was purposely done, why such a bad job, it would have to have been a machine malfuntion. I'm not the original owner, but know where it's been in the last 20 yrs and nobody touched it, it was stored.

About the transmission, I read in a post that this car might of come with a muncie trans, I was under the impression that it came with a Borg Wagner Super T10. Cause I once owned a 74TA Superduty and the trans was a Borg Wagner on that car ?
But if anyone is interested, I do own a Muncie M21 or22 4 speed rock crusher freshly rebuilt.

Thank you for all your comments, it has been very helpful to me, please keep posting.
