Now that I've got the tranny crossmember done. I can route my rear brake line. Last year I broke down and bought a hydraulic flare tool. Anyone who has used a manual brake flare tool knows how difficult it can be making the correct flare. I figure after the third car the flare tool will have paid for itself. Also as is the case with this project. I can't use a stock brake line kit and expect it to fit. Especially with some of the custom frame work that I did. Here's a photo of the flare tool kit and a finished brake line flare.

I just finished putting in the the fuel pump and a pre pump filter. I have also added a fuel shut off at the tank. The first time I went to change a pre pump fuel filter, I didn't have a shut off valve. Needless to say it only took one time for me to understand the benefits of a fuel shut off valve.

Been a while since I've posted anything on the wife's aero coupe. I have been able to pick at it some. Summer's over, maybe this car can see pavement before the years up. I have run some fuel and tranny lines. I pirated my Moroso fuel log off the 65 to complete this system. I've also moved the oil filter higher on the firewall. I was worried that it was to close to the front tire and could make contact.

I have quick release connectors on my tranny lines for the 65. I feel they are worth the added cost. I used Biondo connectors on the 65. I elected to go with the Jiffy-tite connectors on the aero coupe. The Jiffy-tite connectors are more compact hopefully they are as durable as the Biondos.

Hey Mike, there is a 2+2 front header panel on a scrappy 85 GP in a pull-a-part here in Atlanta. I'm going back tomorrow (Monday, 9-29), do you want me to grab it for you? It's a nice piece would be a good spare. I have a picture of it, but it's on my phone and I can't upload it here, I could text it to you if you send me your phone number privately.

I ran into an issue with my rear upper adjustable control arms. I adjusted the arms to their smallest size and couldn't get my initial pinion angle even close to 0 degrees. I did put a 12 bolt rear in the car, so I figured that the mounting point was different. I measured the factory upper brackets and they measured 11 1/4". That was about the middle of the adjustment for the adjustable arms. So they were correct for the G-body. The design of the adjustable control arms allowed me to shorten them without being a major operation. I removed 1 1/2" from the threaded tube. I then had to locate a shop with a 1/2" reverse tap. Now the upper control arms will work.

The pinion angle should be approx 4° negative (down) when measured off/compared to the driveshaft. This is the ideal angle to allow for rear axle wrap-up.

Thanks Jeff that's good info. I now have enough adjustment in my control arms to be able to reach 4 degrees negative.

Cool build
I just found this thread, It's real cool. My best friend is doing an Aero too, 400 Pontiac, 4 speed. did a frame off. He used a Grand National rear they are stong and bolt in.
Very cool build I will watch the rest of it and share it with him. Will you let the wife drive it when its done? LOL |

Congrats to your talents, vision and progress Mike!
I just reverse read this (your) thread from page 15 back to your start @ pg 1. Impressive on many levels, including the crusty Aerocoupe that you started with. Looking forward to the final shakedown and completion pages. |

I'm putting the ignition box and coil in the glove box. In place of the glove box insert I put a flat piece of aluminum. I welded a couple small tabs to the glove box support area and fabricated a bracket to support the aluminum next to the firewall.

Here's the ignition box and matched coil mounted in the glove box. The box is one of the early Summit boxes. I believe the box is actually a Mallory Hyfire. This unit has worked fine for me when in my 65.

Glad to see you are getting close Mike, it's gonna be a great looking car, think it will get at least a test session in this year?
Don't even ask about my Tempest, got waylaid on some other projects, lol |

Good to hear from you Stan. Same here, other projects getting in the way. Gotta take advantage of the open windows when we get them. Doesn't look good for running on one of the local tracks before they close for the season. But I do have the car insured and tagged I'd like to think that I can at least street drive her before the years up. The Hurst shifter is on back order right now. We'll see if it gets shipped on the projected ship date. So far two missed dates. Hopefully the winter season will let you get back on your Tempest.

Having the ignition coil in the glove box requires a firewall connector for the coil wire. Here's what I put in. Next will be the Lokar tranny tube.
