Was looking at the care with MPR today and noticed that the cowl to hood bumpers at the back of the engine compartment do not have rubber bumpers on them like the ones up front do. Are the rear ones supposed to have rubber bumpers?

No bumpers. Those are the anti-decapitation bolts.

On the cowl, right in back of the seal (interior side), near each of the windshield wiper arm levers should be a screw hole.

Mike is right Bob. Mine has the two big bolt/screws with the lock nuts, that I thought were primarily for adjusting the hood to cowl clearence. I was wondering if the heads of the bolt/screw hood to cowl adjusters should have rubber bumpers over the heads.

And also...what's the purpose of the two rubber bumpers behind the cowl to hood weather stripping?

The two large-headed screws with a slots in them are for capturing the rear of the hood in two wedge-shaped grooves in the back of the hood hinge flange in the event of a front end collision. This prevents the hood from slicing through the windshield and detaching the front seat occupants' heads at the neck, and transporting them out the rear window.

The two rubber bumpers are to support the rear of the hood (when it is not trying to decapitate you).

Well I'll be -never knew that's what those were for. Thanks Bob and Steve for clarifying that for me.

Another progress update. MPR got the front clip blocked and buffed, then buffed the rest of the car and all panels now have the same sheen, shine, gloss and it all still looks like an 80s single-stage enamel repaint that is in great condition. Still retains the minor dings and paint imperfections that were common to that era and the life it has lived since then. I'm very pleased with it.

He got the new grille insert put in as well as the filler panel, and then polished it all as well. Back on the car and it looks fantastic. Also got the new stainless steel drip rail moldings installed and they were worth the price! Much better than the plastic ones. Here are a few pictures to preview what she'll look like when all is done. Still need to install the rear deck lid Firebird badge, and the Formula 455 fender badges, hood scoop grilles and Ram Air call-outs, then the new stripes!

The view over the hood!

Also got the new exhaust system from Gardner, which came with a nice surprise! Very well packed as well. The whole system came via FedEx in two boxes.

Nice Beer Glass for my Bar!

Can't wait to get this system installed. I'm still waiting on the new Ram Air manifolds. Central Connecticut Coatings says they should ship by the end of this week!

Looks great - I'm interested to hear how the exhaust system all works out as I have considered going back to a stock style exhaust myself.

Looking great there BJ - you're going to have a lot of fun with that car!

What's the story with the headlights?

Looks great. You're lucky to have a good paint / body guy locally to do the work.

It looks like Gardner MAY have sent you the '71-'73 chrome tips. I would double check before installing them. The '74 / '75 tips are longer. If they are the earlier tips, they will be too short (just trying to help, not being critical).

Here's a pic from an ebay auction to show the difference (74-75 tip on top, 71-73 on the bottom):

I'm impressed with the progress of the car. I am also impressed with the packaging of the exhaust. Surely, it will fit the car, unlike some systems on the market......
